Bravo for spending a week in same house as ex and new wife. I would not spend 5 mins in a house with my ex but we all have different stories.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -
Although its painful to see a bit of a slump, remember all the things you bought during that slump were at about a 10% discount compared with today so you are better off than if they had just been flat during that period - plus as you will have some tax refund in that total it helps to think of the government money taking the loss although that is not strictly trueI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Great news about the art exhibit!
Glad the meeting with ex went well. Hope work goes well next week."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1 -

Thanks Mark, DIA, Jwil, Watty and Merlin
Appreciate the cheer squad.
Bought some much needed bras from an outlet shop and some jewellery today. A £40 ring and a £110 silver bracelet. Then had the belated memory that I was given a diamond family ring at Easter that I can try and get resized. With recent caring requirements and the bereavement I had forgotten all about it. I had considered giving it DD but had the epiphany that I would like it and need to learn to receive.
I also have some other jewellery jobs that I'd like to get done - safety chains and a bracelet expander for some gold jewellery. Potential repairs to a silver hollow bracelet that has come apart at the hinge. Will aim to do that next week. I inherited some cuff links decades ago. They have a bit missing of pearl/mother of pearl? I will see if they can be repaired too. If yes I may give those to DS.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Been tidying this afternoon. Listening to DKW podcast to try and stay motivated. Been stormy here
Woke at midday but only got to sleep after 4am. Nervous about returning to work Tuesday. Seeing a friend and then have chiropractor tomorrow. I think i will book a couple of half days off to make things easier. That way I can be fresher for my life drawing group and then the exhibition. I need to decide my price and make a proper label. If it sold it would give me such a boost to my confidence.
I am still not remotely caught up on diaries sorry, especially the fast moving ones.

My brain still feels quite stop / start and I was struggling before the bereavement with the change of culture etc. Plus 2 of my favourite people were made redundant recently and another is off long term sick. At this point I just want to be made redundant and leave with a nice package - but that is unlikely to be offered any time soon so I need to get stuck back in. I have little patience for office politics at the best of times - which these aren't either. There are days when I can make myself do things - and there are days currently where I just seem to 'veg'. I was very burned out by the time I took time off sick with the bereavement etc. I want to at least try though - and if I end up off sick again so be it - but I think the longer you are off the harder it is to return so don't want to end up in a negative spiral.
In more positive news - I just did my gas and electric meter readings - and where they expected me to be £100 in credit and were therefore upping my monthly payments - I'm £400 in credit. I am thinking of switching to the Octo brand - if any regular posters want to private message me a switching code. I will then see if I can get on the flexible tariff rate once I'm a customer.
I've been buying some things recently towards 3 days worth of emergency supplies recommended by Gov... I've just moved a box of stuff into the garage. Things like a basic camping gas stove etc - which would help in the winter if there was in interruption to power supplies etc. HB and BnM have some low priced options. While it would be a pain to open my garage without electric it is possible - but longer term I'd probably keep it in the house - but I'm just trying to clear the decks a bit for now. I also bought basics like bottled water etc to keep in my garage - and a water filter straw in case I ever need to drink from uncertain water supplies - I've left the latter in my car. I've also put a couple of foil blankets in the car and improved my first aid kit - especially for burns and scalds which seem to be a more frequent occurrence than I'd like.
I plan to buy a few items at a time towards a 3 day supply - but don't want to over-buy and then waste it. I probably need to do a spreadsheet inventory of what I have and expiry dates etc... I already have multiple usb lights and power banks that I use anyway - but the trick is remembering to charge them. I also bought a solar radio etc... Have any of you guys been doing anything similar? This is in response to recent hacking events and talk of global conflict in the media - as well as the risk of natural disasters...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
