Ryan air cancelled flight e-mail


On Thursday night 14-11-24 Ryan air sent out an E-Mail informing passengers of flights being cancelled – which were sent out in error.
Ryanair gave customers the option to refund the supposedly cancelled flight or change the departure and arrival airport for free.
The error email read: “Your flight has been cancelled due to commercial reasons. If you’re travelling with others, please inform them of this cancellation.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.
However on Friday, 15-11-2024 Ryanair issued a new email It read: “Please note an email was sent you regarding the cancellation of your flight in error, please disregard this email as your flight is scheduled to operate.
However passengers have scrambled to rebook flights with alternative airlines after receiving the initial error message and are now left out of pocket as a result.
Now passengers have flights with other Companies with No cancellation for the Ryan air flights.
This is down to Ryan air admitted mistake so these flights should be refunded by Ryan Air?

What have Ryanair said when asked?
Quite understandable that if a flight cancellation email was received that passengers would book other flights.
In my view Ryanair should issue refunds to customers that wish to cancel their bookings at the minimum, I would argue they should reimburse people for replacement bookings customers made as per EC261. I suspect Ryanair's view may be different.
Would be interesting to see what a judge would make of it if it got that far. But surely the email would count as notification of cancellation under EC261.
Was it a widespread issue, or just a handful of flights/pax affected?0 -
I got the same emails - cancelled then rescinded - when I clicked Ryanair's button to book an alternative, I think it showed no flights for about a week on same route.0

I couldn’t get a flight at the same airport and was forced to book to return elsewhere. I also cancelled my parking. Once I received the email advising me that this was a mistake I only had 24 hours to cancel my replacement flight and receive a refund, minus a cancellation fee. As the return to the alternative airport was going to cost me even more money I did this but requested the cancellation fee from Ryanair. They sent me an email saying I may be able to claim ‘care entitlements under EU regulations’ due to my cancelled flight. They clearly didn’t even read my email!0

This happened to me too, I was due to be flying from Luton. I booked the Ryanair flights through a third party initially though, Kiwi and dispute an email link from Ryanair to kiwi to directly request a refund through them, they have been unable to get my refund from Ryanair. I am flying for planned surgery so quickly rebooked alternative flights, but I am aware the issue was widespread as I'm a forum for people also having surgery at a similar time, and people from Shannon and Edinburgh also had flight cancellation emails.0

I was similarly affected but not quite as costly as some other people on here. I got the email saying flight back to Manchester was cancelled so I transferred to a Ryanair flight at the end of the week. However, it then cost me nearly £60 to change my train tickets from airport, which imho was rip off by Northern Rail, anyone know if can claim this back from Ryanair who caused it ? If so how, their customer service info is pretty scant0

The email informed me my return from Manchester to Cork on 2nd Feb was cancelled. I looked for an alternative Ryanair flight from Manchester/Liverpool to Cork/Dublin. There were no flights available on Ryanair until Saturday 8th Feb. Eventually bought Aer Lingus tickets Manchester to Dublin 2nd Feb (€220).
It took Ryanair over 9hrs to send the follow-up text & email saying the initial email was an error.
I've been onto Ryanair looking for a refund of the Aer Lingus tickets. They said their policy is not to refund alternative airline tickets. They would have refunded another Ryanair booking - but that's pointless as there were none available.
I emailed them through their online forms and got an irrelevant reply - my assumption is that it was an automatic reply from a bot.
The call center agent told me over 1000 flights were impacted.
Does anybody know where to go from here?0 -
Can the MSE consumer right specialist help on this? There are lots of people who have had to shell out due to Ryanair's mistake.0

Hi everyone, has anyone got a refund yet from Ryanair re the email sent telling people the flight was cancelled, then another email telling the it was an error and that the flight is going ahead as planned? I just contacted them again and they flatly refuse to reimburse me.0
