    It's not a 'power shortage'. It is simply that Octopus can provide your energy to the grid at a cheaper price than firing up more gas. I only mention that because the Daily Telegraph etc. have been publishing scare stories about power shortages during the heat wave when really it's just business as usual. Part of their anti net-zero / pro fossil campaign.

    I wondered if it was more strategic, to free up more storage space for the following day if it were due to be very sunny and large solar excess on the network?

    Whatever the reason, it's obviously beneficial to the grid, and hence Octopus.

    I have m doubts about that firstly because in that case they'd be better off taking the power during the evening peak. Secondly they're not good at managing the battery in that way. There's a lot of clipping when they let the battery hit 100% early in the day, and when they set maximum charge rate to zero.
