Bumping this thread with some news.

Octopus have emailed to say that the Greener Days promotion (or whatever you call it) will be ending at the end of July.

Seems they've noticed that overnight electricity isn't always the cheapest & greenest, so encouraging EV owners to plug in overnight isn't necessarily the best thing to do. Instead they want us to leave our EVs plugged on for as much of the day as is possible, so they can make use of daytime grid oversupply.

I can't say this surprises me, and the few occasions when I've managed to qualify for Greener Days Octopoints have been more luck than judgement!

Apparently there's a new scheme in the works to replace Greener Days, but we'll all have to wait and a bit longer before finding out what it is.

I believe this is their way of saying the grid is now a bit too balanced. I expect night time tariffs to continue to rise and daytime tariffs (in the warmer months) to continue to fall.

It's a bit of a pain to plug in mid afternoon cuz if I want the car in the evening I'll have to unplug it and perhaps plug it back in again later if it still needs more charge.

Interesting point is that set a overnight charge to be ready @07:00 & the vast majority of late have been ready before 23:30.

Looks like it's back to charging in morning with a 11:00 ready time. GIven I tend to only charge 10 to 30% at a time.

^ Up to now we have set a default daily routine of a 20% charge to be ready by 0730. Much like you we might be able to extend that; I'll need to check with Mrs QrizB as it's her car!

I've noticed on IOF that sometimes Octopus dump a bit of our battery during the small hours. Suggesting at least occasional power shortage during "off peak".

I noticed this am at 1000 ish IOF was pulling 2.3 kW from the grid @ 22.1p whereas if on agile I would be paid 3p and then at 1100 it started discharging at the same rate. Then of course it's got to charge again later. It is often illogical that way, especially with ac/dc losses. 🤷🏻.

It's difficult to compare with other tariffs as you simply wouldn't charge/discharge the same way yourself. The way I look at it is that the battery's controller for Octopus's benefit not for mine, with counter benefit being the higher rates meaning we should be better off in the end.
