Thank you for replying. It's not just me, is it ? The letter makes no sense. Yes, I attended the JC on 4 Jan for an 'identity appointment', after having submitted my UC claim on 28 Dec. I had already accepted my UC commitments online while submitting the claim and I didn't have to do it again at the JC appointment, though I think I was very briefly reminded of them (just to sign into UC account regularly and to inform them of any relevant changes).
Is this letter confirming - in a confusing way - that part of my legacy ESA award was indeed contribution-based and that that will continue (minus the IR part) as New Style ESA ? That would make some sense, because although I don't remember doing so, I would have claimed ESA after losing my full-time job around 2009. Lost my job (with the NHS!) because of my health issues/disability (was already receiving DLA)

If it was 2009 I'm unsure if your claim would've been ESA I think ESA started in 2008 and Incapacity claims ended in 2013 so you would have been one of the earlier ESA contribution claimants having worked with the NHS. I can't see you hearing to much from them now though just check the journal weekly until the payments settle down so you can get used to it.
I think the worst is over just the badly administered letters confuse the best of us.0 -

I've copied this from the New Style ESA gov.uk page.
I think they use slightly different language compared to UC, that's my guess.
The financial amount given in your letter is for the Support Group.Main phase
If you have been found to have limited capability for work, you will move onto the ‘main phase’ for New Style ESA and you will get the basic allowance, plus a ‘support component’ if you are put in the support group.
- basic allowance (standard rate) – up to £90.50 (per week)
- support component – £47.70 (per week)

Everyone in the Support Group had an assessment back around 2018 to see if they had a LCWRA and if so wouldn't need further assessments. I guess this was getting people ready to move to UC then the 2 year mask virus hit and people heard nothing.0
