Progress over the weekend with Mr Sl continued, with all putting the resultant diarrhoea down to the deployment of every laxative known to man. Anyway, that and the gargantuan quantities of antibiotics to combat the chest infection (a form of pneumonia as a result of the ileus or bowel blockage pressing on his lungs) when they did blood and poo testing on Monday morning, they found C-diff (Clostridium difficile) present in his poo. Of course a C-diff symptom is diarrhoea, so into an isolation room with private facilities went Mr Sl. Fortunately, repeat testing yesterday showed he had overcome the escapee (which occurs naturally in the gut but had had it's protective biome washed away by said antibiotics and laxatives) before it became an infection, so, finally, I was able to collect him. Just the bile drain hole to heal (four hours turned into 8 days).
What can I say? we are so relieved. I honestly thought I was losing him last week as he got worse with every visit, and I am hugely relieved he had prepared by losing 2 stone so was out of the obese and into the overweight category (which takes no account of him being a strong and muscular former prop forward, still in good shape at 66, btw!). He does resemble Mike Wozowski in Monsters Inc in terms of loss of condition in his arms and legs but we can deal with that!
