Hello all & thank-you for your condolences. It's been a hard old week full of tearful interludes, both at home and at work. My surviving friend who is now widowed has been struggling greatly with the loss of her best friend and husband so we have been doing our best to support her from afar, with shared chats, jokes and yes even tears. Her time zone is 8 hours behind ours so I have found myself starting the day telling her to go to bed!
Today was spent spreading the news to many of our common friends, those not in the inner circle so to speak but who need to know before the news is shared publically. I'm so glad that we all have a task to do outside of the family circle, so that they can have more time to be together without the 'niceities' of the lead up to the memorial/funeral. What I realized today is what an amazing circle of people OH & I have shared our lives with - they run the gammit of countries, professions and so-called social classes, but each and everyone of them we hold dear.
The most poingnant exchange was actually with my last manager, who happened to also be good friends with the couple before he & I met. After my year of medical leave, he was the one who agreed to me returning to work and was incredibly supportive and bolstering in all the ways that counted. Professionally we worked together throughout the pandemic and his phrase was always 'don't worry - I have your back because I know you have mine' - and he is truly a man of his word. What he isn't is a man of outward emotions so as we shared our grief over the loss of our mutual friend, I warned him I was going 'there' with the mushy stuff and told him how much he meant to me. He said something mildly emotional and then made me promise not to go 'there' again anytime soon! We had a good laugh together and the result is that I've been chuckling over it all day!

Aw, that's such a good way to remember your friend - to use a time of remembering them to let others know what they mean to you, and have a laugh. You've probably warmed your last manager's heart too, even if he's not one to talk about it!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
