@rtandon27 could you discuss some sort of compassionate leave to cover some palliative care, while Madam is out?! Love Humdinger xx6

I too have been wondering about some kind of compassionate leave, or reduced hours given your circumstances. We all need support in the really difficult times and you are carrying a load here xxMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5 -
@Humdinger1 & @Watty1 - thank-you both for your compassion & thinking of that as an option xxx - unfortunately the only type of leave allowed to me is unpaid once my very generous leave allowance is used up each year. I can currently take a day here and there with docked pay until the end of fiscal, but when I will need a chunk of time, it's a one time deal so I'm saving it for when it's absolutely necessary. Compassion from my employer would be an Xmas miracle indeed!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Reducing the mortgage by 21months!
So today was the last of the 10 large overpayments I made this year & my mortgage end-date projection is 21 months. I would have liked 28 months so that mortgage pay off would coincide with state pension age, but for now this will do. According to the mortgage overpayment calculator, I've also save myself 24,622.31gbp in interest over the life of the mortgage which is an amazing amount of money!
I've re-evaluated these large overpayments for next year as OH's current prognosis means a funeral will soon need to be paid for which is approximately equal to the extra that was paid into the mortgage this year. Upcoming year's focus will be to adjust to the massive life change that is about to happen without loosing the plot.
So plan for this upcoming year is currently to pay just the small top-up amount each month - effectively doing a tilly tidy because I like the look of several zeros at the end of the number.
Once interest hits on December 31st, end of year mortgage total is just under 144K - not bad for 4.5 years as I started this house owning lark at 185K with a large down payment.
Next year I will need to renew the mortgage - let's hope I'm still able to get a really decent mortgage rate & am employed full time at that point!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! That's incredible progress on the mortgage RT - well done you!
I think you are right about preparing yourself to cope with the life-change aspects of what is to come as well, and it's good that you are already accepting that there will be a lot of need to treat yourself kindly around that, both before and after.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
