    If he doesn't use all of his tax free allowance and you are not a higher rate tax payer then he can transfer some to you.

    A pity this no longer applies.  I am talking around 50 years ago when a woman became another person on marrying.  So 2 personal allowances.  I think that was why so many got married in September (as I did).  Even in the early 90s a husband was responsible for his wifes tax & would get charged if their total went into the next tax bracket.  People don't realise how recent any semblance of equality really is.

    20.5 coupons used in 2020. 62.5 used in 2021. 94.5 remaining as of 21/3/22

    Just popping in to say congratulations too. It sounds like a lovely day. Well done. I remember saying how different it felt with us too. Many years on, it still does
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September
    OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2234.63/£3000 or 74.49% of my annual spend so far (not going to be much of a Christmas at this rate as no spare after 9 months!
    I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread

    Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

    In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
