Sometimes I wonder if the Fates are paying any attention to the threads they are weaving for me!? My portion of the tapestry is far too complex even for my liking!
Just back from am emergency dental - weak tooth was recracked from a seizure - and it turns out I have an absess and need a root canal! 1700 pounds worth - YIKES!!!!! - Thank goodness that past me has set aside a healthy emergency fund. Long live a frugal lifestyle!
My loverly gentle dentist (who is very handsome btw) wanted to do it tomorrow for me, but OH has his MRI & CT booked for tomorrow so it will be next week - he's just trying to find some space for me. I've been with him since 2011 and also have referred several work colleagues so I'm rather pleased that he is being so accomodating! I'm so thankful that at least some of it can be claimed back via my dental insurance but this will still leave a hole in my bank account that no amount of duct tape will repair!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Crikey, that is indeed a big hole, I'm so sorry. Not what you need right now! 😬

@Cheery_Daff & @beanielou - thank you both for commiserating over the ouchy tooth and expense!
I've crunched (no pun intended) the numbers & looked at dental insurance and medical insurance - between the two of them I'll get back 600-ish of my expenditure so will now need to juggle the pots so the emergency fund covers the rest. It's not too bad for cash flow as the treatment plan allows for 4 payments & all can be made on credit cards which won't be payable until September. He has even given me small discounts where he's able which is very kind of him as I didn't actually ask for mates rates 😅. Now given that he and I are the same age, I'm hoping that this work will not give out until we are both almost retired, so that further work hits a working person's salary and not a retired person's salary!
On the subject of Credit Cards, my Sainsbo one is switching over this week and my Helfix which is soon to be Loyd's will be switching over later this month so I better get those ready to use! Not overly thrilled that all three credit cards will all be V!sa and none M/C. Guess I'll be looking out for a M/C as soon as my mortgage switches over to the new product!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Mine tend towards V1sa too - what difference does it make?

@Cherryfudge - I'm jaded and always have cards from two seperate systems as I was twice caught out without a means to pay when the only card I had was V!sa and their system was down. Now I keep one from each company so that if the first is down I can use the other. I also work with folks who travel globally and they swear by having both those cards and A/E on them at all times as well as a bit of cash in the local currency!

One of mine specifically selected to be M/C has now switched to Visa so I need to close it and apply for another. My Amex is thankfully unchanged. As you say, a hangover from regular international travel, although I never bothered with local currently as I was often only in each country for a day or two. If the places I did longer trips, Scandinavia was pretty much cashless (except busses in Helsinki 🙄) and the US was fine except for cabs and tipping. My US colleagues always used to solve the cab issue with ‘cash and no tip or card and tip’ as the options. But work didn’t allow cash expenses to be claimed back anyway.

@greenbee - ah yes - tipping culture does have it's drawbacks - I'm very much minded that a gratuity is just that - in gratitude - if I'm not feeling it I don't tip or in a restaurant with poor service, the 1p tip! On the other hand, if the service is really good I'll happily do the 20% tip!

So today involved a lot of effort to swallow a frog - my house insurance has been provided for 5 years by the Nectarbank Insurance - and I was very happy with the coverage and the price (not to mention the nectar points bonus each year) - they no longer exist and about a month ago LV sent me a quote which seemed odd as it was a good 50 pounds less than last year. I finally went online and got a manual quote and good thing i did as the original quote was not like for like and even better, the insuance cover I opted for included legal fees for discriminatory dismissal! The actual paid amount for the insurance was 2 pounds less than i had budgeted for and also includes garden plants - I have a tree that appears to be suffering from the PG neighbours actions, so may submit a claim to have this removed and replaced. Now I don't recommend waiting until the 11th hour to get house insurance sorted, but tbh I'm not faffing around with comparisons when the policy I purchased had everything I wanted and more and came within budget! - done for another year!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!!
