Any views on SPUSU? Looking for a supplementary sim as 3 network coverage is so poor

Hello.  I was seduced into taking out a 2 year contract with ID mobile on the 3 network.  Actually a very good deal to include a pixel 8 phone.  However - the signal is truly awful in places.  So if I walk into Wrexham, for example, or go further into Wales the signal is pretty much absent.

I've seen a sim offer with SPUSU (on the EE network) offering 1GB/month and unlimited calls/texts for £2.90/month.  I'm therefore thinking about getting an e-sim to supplement my current sim which I can switch to when the signal is poor.  SPUSU is new to me.  I wondered if anyone has any views, and whether there are alternatives that anyone might recommend.  Thanks

    I can recommend an alternative.
I needed a second SIM on the EE network to cover not-spots on the O2 network (Far North of Scotland).

RWG mobile are a Welsh MVNO and have lots of different plans running on all 4 networks including the Now (EE) network.

I went for a one-off payment and get 50 mins calls/50 txts/250MB every month. It works well for me when I'm out and about and my main SIM can't get a signal and I need to check emails, maps, bus timetables, banking, WhatsApp etc.

One feature I like about RWG is they say they suspend your SIM after 90 days non-use. However, unlike some networks, they don't immediately cancel your number and recycle it. You email support and they will reenable your SIM. This is handy if you forget to use it, like I did last winter.

I have them as a back up sim as well, they had some teething troubles after they launched (which people still harp on about) but they have excellent customer service and it works well now.

£5 a month and you can only access apps they’ve approved? With no minutes or texts either?

    Seems like a terrible idea.

Strange product, wonder how/why they select/limit the allowed apps (has NatWest but no RBS, Whatsapp allowed but no calling just messaging).

Bet someone's hacked round this - unlimited data for £5/month............

RWG runs on both EE and 3, with different bundles
You just pick the network you want when you order

I can only endorse what @d123 has said.  I switched to SPUSU about 9 months ago, initially with an esim, but after some problems I converted to a physical sim and have had no problems since.  Just returned from a holiday and (5G) EU roaming was seemless.
Email support can be a little slow but phone calls are quickly answered and CS is both helpful and competent.

Just to add, unlike some I’ve had absolutely no problems receiving OTP codes from banks etc.
  • I went with Spusu middle of September after buying phone in their approved list of compatible phones.
Cancelled yesterday as they are unable to get wifi calling working, which works fine wit 1p mobile and Lebara.
