Amex not allowing balance transfers

So just called American express to ask why my balance transfer request to a pre approved 0% Santander credit card won’t go through and the customer service adviser said that Amex do not allow balance transfers? Is this true?

Amex customer service advisers are well-trained, so probably that is a condition of your particular card. I have to say that a few years ago I made a number of substantial balance transfers from my Amex to other interest-free cards, including one from Santander.

I did an Amex Platinum Cashback to RBS 0% transfer earlier this year.

I did a balance transfer to NatWest last week. Not all credit cards can BT from Amex, I think it's something that do with their cards only having 15 numbers. Apparently putting a zero at the front can work for some.

Thats more a problem of how the other card issuer has setup their system than AmEx refusing to accept the funds.

Do you have a Charge card or credit card? Did Amex provide a reason?

Did a Balance Transfer yesterday from my Amex Everyday Platinum card to HSBC - no issues.
