Dimplex quantum help - how hot?

On top of it I've expect more heat when it was actually working - when the thing is just charging though I would be concerned if the casing felt actually hot as said - the whole point of the Quantums is that they don't leak huge amounts of heat as they charge, so a very hot casing is indicative of a problem with the insulation, I'd suggest. I always used to work on the basis with ours that because of the low-level heat leakage it was rarely worth actually running the heater while it was charging, but it certainly never got hot enough to function as a radiator!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

50c water is enough to scald.
In deep winter when I charge them still only to about a half at most on inpit (but do so 3x daily) my old heaters are too hot to rest hands on for few seconds without them going red - and I'd say the same about GCH rads when had them.
Many gch boilers had flow temps out to gch rads set in tge 60-75 C region as shipped. Before govt widely published advice to turn it down.
The op says his is much hotter than a gch radiator- never measured my old nsh and their off (after running just 1 for c36 hrs on low input weekend of 12th/13th cold spell).
But unless missed it OP hasn't reported if checked if the diagnostics pages info core temp readings display in the gdhv links operating on his model and if so what temps.
And @EssexHebridean reports his Quantum was lot cooler than another nsh ( an old Creda was referenced in some posts at old address iirc)
Their is in some Dimplex statements a reference to 110C max core and the ex shows 80s, 90s and even 104C iirc one day. So much hotter than water in a gch radiator. If finds a balance of heat flow route to the case vs room passive radiation instead of fan assisted mode forcing it out - the case could well get quite warm.
For instance some have reported vibration type noise from poor panel fitting - if that from an internal panel forming part of heat seal (e.g. inner front) maybe more heat might escape than design.
Be interesting to see what Dimplex find on visit.

I am going to go back and have a look to see when my daytime usage hiked up before the summer to see if there is any rhyme or reason. I have found the pictures I took when I turned it off before the summer as I thought it was too dangerous to leave on. I had left on 'Away' as we were - er- away. It was therefore set to come on only at 7degrees. We got back a few hours earlier though to find the heater blowing out hot air and with a temperature of 39 degrees, even though the display clearly says it was off and would be back on in 4 hours. I think this is what caused my daytime usage to treble.0 -
Well remembered Scot - we did indeed have an old (well, ancient!) Creda as well as some newer Dimplex - pre HHR - ones, plus the single Quantum.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I now have 2 quantums but one is in the hall so don't really want or need to put it on until it gets cold. That one was second hand and didn't seem to give any hassle. I have another second hand one ready to replace an old SH but am loathe to switch that over until this issue is found with the brand new quantum. That will leave one old SH to update as I really need 2 SH in the living room. It's hard to heat due to its size.0

The council recently installed quantum storage heaters in my flat and they take some getting used to. These heaters are well insulated that's why they don't get as hot as the older type, they are also preset so you can adjust the program that suits your home. The one in my living room wasn't storing enough heat to last on home all day so I upped the ' heat demand offset' from 30% to 40% and this has made a big difference in keeping my room warm, but it does increase energy use. The temperature I change on the dial during the day, depending on how warm I want my room, at the moment I find 22° comfortable being elderly. My living room door is ajar so my cat can get in and out. I have used the one in the bedroom once as it made my bedroom too hot and uncomfortable and it was very noisy, it was that bad I got out of bed in the early hours to switch it off. Storage heaters are not recommended for bedrooms because of this. The heater in my hallway I have on 'out all day mode', this saves 30% of energy use and I leave my bedroom and kitchen doors open all day as they are adjacent to my hallway, my bedroom door is closed when I go to bed so my cat doesn't disturb me.
The downside of these heaters is the constant noise which there's nothing you can do about, even turning the TV up doesn't drown the noise out completely, I'm hoping I will eventually get used to the noise, I'm not holding my breath on that one!!!- BuzzingA normal noise from the electronic components or elements of a storage heater
- Clicking or knockingA natural sound from the metal components expanding and contracting as the heater heats and cools
- Whooshing or whirringA normal sound from the furnace fan
- Light clanging or tappingA normal sound from other moving parts and components of the furnace, especially as they expand or contract
I have found Dimplex support very helpful, phone number 03448793588 option 3 option 1 option 1 option 1
Be patient with me I'm old and my brain has slowed down!0 -

But the core itself is probably far higher - seen reference to 110 deg C limit - hotter than boiling water - on a quick google. And the ch6 diagnostic screen 11 ex shows 80s, 90s and 104 max iirc.0
