Woolworths

i am so fed up with this shop, regarding their cds, dvds and console games, i was in one store that i had 5 instances of them not having the dvd or console game in stock for me to have, and thats through being in the Queue 3 times!
Do they really think i have nothing better to do than stand there browsing the games and dvds, and then choosing what i want only to get to the check out desk to be told its not in stock? Well then why have you got them on the shelves? Am i a mindreader? Can i tell what you have to sell or not? I actually find it very misleading, to the point that i went to another store and still got the same treatment, so when i got home, i sent an email through their website to be told that i couldve had the opportunity of ordering it, but ive never had that asked of me. All i was asking is if you havent got it to sell, then why are you putting it on the shelves in the first place?
Ive just found this method too frustrating to bother with them to be honest.

I went into Woolies yesterday with DD who was on a xmas spending spree. She bought a few Bratz dolls and was looking for the Bratz Mansion house which Woolies had reduced to £49.99.

DD asked a lady who was stocking shelves about it, the lady immediately set about tracking down a mansion for her, telephoning several stores until she had found one and reserved it for us to go and collect.

Ive alway found woolies staff to be fabulously helpful and willing to go that extra mile for you.
  • It normally states on the shelf edge that the product is out of stock, even if a box is there.

    Unfortunately it doesn't.

I visited Woolworths on Saturday with my 6 year old son. He wanted to spend his Xmas money on some games for his new DS Lite. He chose 2 games, we took them to the counter, we queued up for 15 minutes and when we came to be served the assistant warned us that they may not have them in stock. They didn't and my son was very upset.

There were no out of stock notices on the shelf. There were 2 copies of 1 game and 6 copies of the other game on the shelf. They were still on the shelf when we left the store. We were not offered the chance to order the games.

I emailed Woolworths about it and got the following response:
    I'm sorry that
the item you chose was out of stock and that you received poor service
when you were told this. We ask our stores to keep the empty cases on
display because customers now have the option to order products through
our in store ordering and home delivery service. I am sorry this service was
not offered to you. We would also keep the case or box on display if the
particular item is expected to come back into stock on-line or in store.

Please be assured that we would never intentionally mislead our customer
and your comments will be passed to our Entertainment Department for
    their information.

I think it is very misleading to have items on the shelf where there is no stock available. I went into town specifically to buy the games. If I wanted to order them I could have done it on the internet at home but my son wanted the games right away so I went to the store.

We need to tell Woolworths (and other stores that have this policy) that we do not like it! Martin? Any chance of picking up on this topic please? It's wasting our time and money going to the shops to buy things they don't have in stock, only to have to order them at the counter and pay (again) to have them delivered. We can order stuff from home on the phone or the net, we go to the shops because we want the stuff now and don't want to pay for delivery. Their excuses about leaving items on the shelves are pathetic and it's just bad shopkeeping.

  • No we still don't have the games. We weren't given the option of ordering them at Woolworths. We have a GameStation in town but they didn't have them either so I'm going to try and order them from somewhere online.

  • That's a bit naughty then. Our Woolworths definitely had them so we knew where we stood.

Sorry your son has been left disappointed.

definately right, they dont have the majority of them in stock, so it would seem its not an isolated case of this happening either, as i had the very same email sent back to me as well from them, and i am meaning dvds, cds, and game console games, things that you can only purchase at the entertainments till, not toys and such.
    Heres my email - -

I'm sure you'll appreciate that entertainment products cause security problems for us and we try to combat this by displaying empty cases or boxes. When a customer chooses an item, the empty case should be filled or replaced with stock from the entertainment counter. I'm sorry that on more than one occasion that the item you chose was out of stock and that you waited in the queue before being told this. We ask our stores to keep the empty cases on display because customers now have the option to order products through our in store ordering and home delivery service. I am sorry this service was not offered to you. We would also keep the case or box on display if the particular item is expected to come back into stock on-line or in store.

I understand the need to have empty cases, but just how do you figure out the amount of empty boxes they have for an item and they dont have it in stock?? sure does sound odd to me,

oh so what i meant to add was that this is just a generic email and not a response at all
  • Wow, they have a standard email for complaints about it? It must be getting on a lot of people's nerves then!

Come on Woolworths, when will you get the message? When we go to the store it's because we want to buy something, not order something! We feel cheated if you put stuff on the shelves and you don't have it to sell. It's not fair.
