Choice seems to be down to AKG K702 or Sennheiser HD599 unless anyone else has other suggestions in that range.

Both of those are open back and give a good sense of stereo spatially compared to closed back ones in a similar price range. Not what I would have thought was a number one priority whilst gardening!
Of the two I like the AKG phones but it is not the best construction of the headband that might well catch on bushes, hedges etc.   or not fit as well under a hood for those cold days. The HD 599 is a lot neater in that respect.
Agree that the HD599 is a lot neater.
However just to complicate matters I have now discovered the Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX which if it were available in the UK for a sensible price would be a step up from both the HD599 and the AKG K702.  Just a shame that these don't seems to be readily available in the UK.

  • Just ordered a pair of HD6XX direct from Drop, $214 including postage (£170).

Nice cans. Are you going to get stung by import tariffs (tax? duty? VAT? whatever?)

Hope not, no mention of that when I ordered but will have to wait and see I guess.

Back to the start again.  After waiting nearly two months for these Drop HD6xx I now find they have been returned as "undeliverable" for some reason.
