RomfordNavy said:Latest couple of possibilities:
- Philips SHP9600
- Beyerdynamic DT990
but question whether the Beyerdynamic are suitable for a portable player due to their 250ohm impedence.
Beyerdynamics website lists both, the 'pros' appear to be 40g lighter than the standard version.

80 Ohm ones available on Aliexpress for £63 but not sure if they are real or copies.

Well not found anything yet so upped the budget to say £150. Then looed into the Beyerdynamic DT-990 but many reviews suggest they are quite top heavy lacking good bass but having exagerated high treble which I do not think I would like much.Anything else in this price range which does not have this exagerated treble?0

Unfortunately reviews can be very variable and misleading!Performance also depends upon the listener's physical head/ear dimensions (in a similar way to a listening room does with speakers) and that is 'difficult to modify!!Best way is to use your ears and compare a range. There will be compromises, even with your extended budget, such as ruggedness vs sound quality.0

Moving about can put a lot of stress on a headphone socket. Be careful where you wear whatever audio device you are using."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0

And unless your sat somewhere pretty quiet and are focusing on the music rather gardening etc, IMO you'll not notice any difference."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0

Choice seems to be down to AKG K702 or Sennheiser HD599 unless anyone else has other suggestions in that range.

Not what I would have thought was a number one priority whilst gardening!Of the two I like the AKG phones but it is not the best construction of the headband that might well catch on bushes, hedges etc. or not fit as well under a hood for those cold days. The HD 599 is a lot neater in that respect.2
