Can anyone suggest a wired headphone with exceptionally good sound quality please. Don't want to spend hundreds as will be worn outdoors and may occasionally get wet.

Exceptionally good sound for less than hundreds is an oxymoron.
Go somewhere like Richer Sounds to try out some display / demo units with the player you will be using. Playback device DAC and/or source audio (rips?) may well limit audio quality in any case.

Apart from 'Wired' What sort of headphones do you want? Looks like you want them while out running or walking? A little more info would help.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Well, as said it's a bit subjective and you don't mention a budget...So you can go for these... Shure AONIC 3 Sound Isolating Earphones, Black at Gear4music
Or, budget down to these....Soundmagic E11C Wired Earbuds With Microphone HiFi Stereo Earphones Noise Isolating in Ear Headphones Powerful Bass Tangle Free Cord Gunmetal: Amazon.co.uk: Garden
There are loads in between those and some higher. Personally I don't think you need 'exceptionally good' sound quality for the uses you describe, just good will suffice and I doubt you'll notice the difference..Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Wired Headphones while gardening would be maddening, falling forwards off your head and the wire (even for earphones) getting tangled up plants and tools.
I would go for wireless earbuds like Sony WF-C700N1 -
