Do you have an arranged overdraft facility and if so, are you fully using it?

what do you mean pay everything back & more?

are they paying the direct debit when there are no funds in the account and taking you into an overdraft incurring charges? you can pay money in before the end of the day to avoid charges.

The money will go to the company if there is enough in the account. If not you will get a  message asking you to add funds by a certain time so it can be sent on 2nd DD run later in the day.

If there are sufficient funds in the account & it is still not going. Then it could be that the company the DD goes to is not requesting the funds.
As banks don't send DD's the company claims them.
Bank will only step in & stop if not enough money in the account.

Varies by bank though, NatWest (on the £2 a month account) pay my DD and tell me if I am over and then say I have to put funds in or get charged OD fees, I think by 3pm. Only seen it a couple of times due to DD being taken earlier than it was supposed to be

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
