  • https://www.inkcycle.co.uk offer up to £5 a cartridge (usually a lot less though - depends on cartridge type). I haven't used the service myself but I have ordered reconditioned cartrdiges and ink refills and they've been fine. Use the following to see the prices:

  • Yep I am the man. paulalexmac previous comment about Tesco paying between £1 and £3.50 for cartridges is correct, as some of these cartridges can be refilled. However the overall cost of each cartridge to me (a refiller), is considerably higher as certain cartridges ie Lexmark are manufactured for once only use and as such can be a right pain to refill and get quality results. Certain models may have a 30% success rate, therefore that £3.50 cartridge I have bought, will actually owe me £10.50 at the end of the day. Anyway I am rambling !! Lexmark and HP I believe have patents on there products so they cannot be copied. Epson however do not, and compatible Epson cartridges are available from China etc at very competitive prices thus not making it economical to refill them. By the way inkjet cartridges can take 100s of years to decompose, so by people such as Lexmark making the cartridges disposable, they are simply adding to landfill sites rather than promoting recycling.
I'm glad I have got that off my chest. !!! :)

The reason they recycle them is so they can recondition then refill them and sell them under their own brand. If you look at their own cartridges they're not new they're reconditioned.

Yes, they reimburse the customer or the charity to the value of £1. Then they clean it up, put a few pence worth of ink into it repackage it and then sell it on for a huge profit. It's not really about the environment or donating to age concern - that's just the hook to get you send them your cartridges so they can resell them.
The HP56 (black) equivalent sells at around £12.99 and the HP57 (3 colour) equivalent sells at £14.99.

Still, recycling and 50p to charity is better than throwing them away.

You can also recycle cartridges and mobile phones via the charity Action Aid: they will send you Freepost envelopes for your old toner cartridges:
    http://www.actionaidrecycling.org.uk/

    From their site:
ActionAid Recycling reduce waste by collecting empty printer, photocopier and fax cartridges, and unwanted mobile phones; and reduce poverty by donating profits to ActionAid, the charity, who work with over 9 million of the world's poorest people.

To get involved simply phone 0845 - 3 100 200 and ask to register. We'll then send you a free storage box or freepost envelopes for returning inkjets or mobile phones. Or you can take your cartridges to the following list of ActionAid Drop Off Points.

ActionAid are unusual amongst charities that are associated with toner cartridge collection in that it is actively involved in collecting the empty cartridges rather than just lending its name to cartridge collection.

Recycling is free, simple to do and will make a difference.

Can I just add something about why I started this post...

I was looking for a way to increase my Tesco's clubcard points - not so I can spend that money in Tesco's LOL but so that I can take advantage of the great 250 points = £10.00 in their great deals brochure - particularly for us 700 points for an Alton Towers ticket or 2000 points for a Tussauds Yearly pass.

But, what I liked about this scheme is that it also involved money for charity - from a percentage of people that might not normally recycle their inkjet cartridges for charity. Simply selling the cartridges didn't work out for me as many of the most popularly consumed HP and Lexmark work out at around 5p - 25p with a lot of these sites. I'd have to make 50p for charity and anything from 50p - £2 to equal the clubcard points equivilant gain.

Although we all like to think altruistically, some people might already gather up their old cartridges and drop them in for charity recycling, but for a clubcard/charity scheme, some might be prompted to get more from friends and family TOO!!

I've had a local business agree to donate their used cartridges for me to put into this scheme and have decided to opt for clubcard points/charity rather than the straight £1 charity donation so that I can hopefully get enough points to donate somethign like an annual Tussuads pass or two for our church charity auction/raffle next year. If this doesn't happen then I can always swop the clubcard points for my own money to give to charity or use them to buy groceries/toiletries for the appeals that our local church has.

So KEEP SAVING people! I love this website! It's revolutionised...my shopping bill...my credit card....my clubcard.... :j

unfortunately you can't use clubcard points to buy tussauds passes anymore, just the one day tickets.

My local animal shelter (https://www.stubbingtonark.org.uk) also has a bucket where you can leave printer cartridges - they receive £1 for each one.

You spent twenty thousand francs on this !!!!!!??

A bit off topic but I was hoping someone could let me know which stores accept coupons in the Torquay area, I'm off down there for the weekend and a little local knowledge would be helpfull.
    Thanks in advance.

there was a thread or two about tussauds passes earlier in the year, sometime after the february clubcard mailout - tesco changed the terms on the annual pass to say the closing date was 1st may 2005, after which the deal was no longer available. the next mailout was during may so of course nobody got their may vouchers in time to use them for a pass. like me, many people were deliberately taking advantage of deals for extra points hoping to get a tussauds pass in may. i ended up paying for two of our annual passes because i only had enough february points to buy one pass and the ebay price of points rocketed to more than 3 times the value. recently a large group of us went to AT and those without passes used 2 for 1's to get in, some of them went to get passes at the end of the day and got the full £28 entry fee taken off the cost of the pass even though they hadn't paid £28 to get in.

you can buy a one day pass for £7 in clubcard points. apparently nectar are starting to offer a tussauds pass but there was no mention of it in the mailing i got from them yesterday.

sorry to go off the topic of cartidges, by the way did anyone get that email address for more bags to work? my husband says they throw away maybe one cartridge per year at work but it's still worth sending off for charity instead of throwing it away.

Ah. i see. but will they be doing annual passes next year with the same sort of time limit? That's what I was banking on.

I didn't get a bounce back from that email address, but I didn't get a reply either!

This is the company's phone number 0800 435576 but they do so many different schemes, I would be very specific about which bags you want!
