The reason they recycle them is so they can recondition then refill them and sell them under their own brand. If you look at their own cartridges they're not new they're reconditioned.

Yes, they reimburse the customer or the charity to the value of £1. Then they clean it up, put a few pence worth of ink into it repackage it and then sell it on for a huge profit. It's not really about the environment or donating to age concern - that's just the hook to get you send them your cartridges so they can resell them.
The HP56 (black) equivalent sells at around £12.99 and the HP57 (3 colour) equivalent sells at £14.99.

Still, recycling and 50p to charity is better than throwing them away.

WHSmiths sell their reconditioned cartridges for extortionate prices - half as much again as Tesco - a real rip off. I bought one and then returned it to store when I found out it was reconditioned and even the staff didn't know - they'd been actively trying to persuade customers to buy them and thought they were new HP ones which were rebranded.

This is a re-run of what happened last year on mobile phones for recycling. A similar offer (a lot more clubcard points), people buying them on Ebay and then the recycling people being flooded with phones. They them imposed a limit of something like 4 phones per person.

    Another golden goose cooked ....

I've got some empty Lexmark carts but they have been opened and refilled in the past. Would they still take them?

Can't see why not - it doesn't say anything about that in the terms and conditions.

Does it matter if they are coloured or black and white?

Had a promise of 22 cartridges, wether they will ever make it home is another matter. All I have to do now is see if there are 22 envlopes in Tesco today.

I was going to send them all off seperatley, different postboxes, different times of the day, spread throughout the week but in the light of previous postings I think the sooner the better before any limits come in.

How many points were they giving for old mobiles last year?

They do still take mobile phones for recycling - if the phone turns on you get 300 points plus they donate £1 to charity, if it does not turn on you get 50 points plus £1 donation.

do the cartridges have to be the refillable ones?

I managed to find out that there is NO limit to how many you can send in, but i think its only 4 to 6 in a bag, so if you have more than just divide them into different bags.

The bags are quite small but there were a hundred or so bags at my Tescos. As for which cartridges - black/white or colour is fine from what i read on the bag and as for the refillable question - as Tesco stated (and I repeated in my first post) they already told you which type of cartridges they can recycle!!

    Hewlett Packard (any inkjet)
    Lexmark (any inkjet)
Canon (specific models as I wrote in the first post)
    NO EPSON (cannot be recycled)

As I suspected my Tesco had no bags but I had an email back today, suspect its the stock reply. No complaints though it seems on the number you can request.

Interesting. So you have to send it with a fully charged battery?

And then what happens if you send it off fully working but the PO kick it around at the sorting office so by the time is reaches its destination its only worth 50 points!

Can you send the squashed ones you sometimes find on the road! LOL

Has anyone got a link or an email address where you can send for bags for phones. Do they go in bags?
