(Very) Old O2 PAYG SIM Card

Thanks brewerdave. Yup it's complicated. I saw that the target is to have both 2G and 3G shut down by 2033, 3G first. So any non-4G devices will drop to 2G, which is too slow for internet but OK for calls and texts. And smart meters use 2G, so another big upgrade project. Haha.

I also have this old PAYG classic SIM and I got the text message in early October saying I had to do a SIM swap. I got a reminder earlier this month. Unfortunately I am now abroad. Starting today my incoming text messages are no longer being received. I think I have been cut off! Which is a shame as I need these text messages to log in to my online banking.0

When did you last use your O2 number with an outgoing call or text (or top-up)?
Ring your own O2 number from another phone and see if it rings!
As for all that other nonsense about the very old SIMs, all you need to do it go to a decent O2 shop and say you want a SIM Swap because you've been told the old tech SIMs are going to stop working. The swap in a shop is normally a very simple straightforward task for them. Tariff and credit transferred to a new SIM.
Earlier in the year, my other half "lost" here phone. We no longer have a shop locally so rang O2. O2 sent a new SIM with the number, the current (Classic) tariff and Balance transferred to it.0 -

I don't know about other providers, but EE transferred the credit from my occasional PAYG to a PAYM deal (both EE), then I cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period, and got the credit refunded, so I was able to find a better deal with another provider without losing that credit.0
