(Very) Old O2 PAYG SIM Card

The sim swap link says that after April 2g sims will not be able to connect to their masts, but that 4g/5g sims will work in older (2g/3g?) devices which seems odd.
Just show them the text and say you need to replace your existing sim and keep the same terms as before. Ultimately they do have the right to end your agreement but they haven't given notice that they wish to...2 -

@KittaKatta I picked my replacement up today from my local store, same tariff, same number. Was easy enough, although I do find it odd having to show my drivers license for a PAYG SIM replacement when they don't have a clue who owns the SIM.
Anyway, @savergrant they said it's the age of the SIM card I had and it won't work with network changes that are going to be made in the next few months. I should have changed it years ago tbf signal is better now 😆1 -

Unfortunately I went by the O2 Shop in London Westfield but again, they tried to sell me a contract instead of replacing my SIM with a PAYG.
May I ask where you went to get yours replaced?
I think that I will have to end up getting a new PAYG SIM with GiffGaff.0 -

I have just ordered my PAC from O2 - they will refund me the credit on the phone if I move to another provider.
I am not in a hurry as O2 should continue honoring my contract until April 2025, but I will probably move to a PAYG with GiffGaff (paying for calls, messages and data as I go, which is exactly what I want), with no monthly D/D.
Hopefully it will work out.
Many thanks to everyone for your help!0 -
Be aware that a PAC is only valid for 30 days, it then expires and another would be needed to move your number.1

@KittaKatta oh no that just terrible. I went to the Birmingham City Centre branch. They just asked me how much I topped up and when I said £10 a year he ran out the back and did it as fast as possible 🤣
Sounds like Giffgaff might be a good option but honestly if it was me I'd go back and ask to speak to the manager of the store and point to the text O2 sent, I can't fathom how they could refuse...
Hope it gets sorted, but you're right no particular rush just yet I guess!1 -
