Welcome back Dusty - we crossposted.Narco, I put all my mother's address book details in a spreadsheet over 20 years ago and have had to use it every year for one reason or another. It's time well-spent. My brothers burnt my father's address book so I've not been able to stay in touch with his relatives or most of his friends.I feel a bit better today having had a longer night's sleep than usual. Despite feeling grim yesterday I scrubbed out four huge buckets that have been used in the garden all year and are now needed to over-winter bird and cat food. That took rather longer than I'd hoped. I also pre-soaked the mountain of dusters that I used spring cleaning plus all the gardening gloves used to tidy up the sundeck and yard and a couple of dog pee towels, and then ran them through the WM last night. They're almost dry on the clothes horse in the kitchen. I cleaned out and scrubbed one of the big bird-feeders so I'll refill the sunflower seed section today and put that out and then clean the other one. I think the peanuts and fat balls I've been using are either too long out of date or just not good enough stock because the birds are ignoring them and just focussing on the sunflower hearts. When I'm out and about I'll get some new stuff. One of the things I'm going to be doing this week is clearing the decks. The brown bin will be pretty much full by the time Belovéd gets back and I won't have to explain to him why each and every thing is in there. A neighbour actually wheels the bins out and Belovéd wheels them back in so what he doesn't see won't bother him.On the spur of the moment last night while that was going on I decided that some leftover shallots and a small cucumber should be soup with some peas, some whoopsied basil from Saturday and some mint trimmings from the sundeck sort. It was amazing with some leftover sourdough bread from It's Not a Thing. There are still quite a lot of leftovers but most of them are in the freezer, but the cucumber was bound to go over fairly soon and that recipe just came together in my head. It's going to be a mainstay.Better is good enough.7

Thanks for the welcome back guys.
I'm trying to find some mojo. I did a HHC in which
I put washing on
Cleaned the sinks
Washed up
filled bird feeder
Emptied indoor compost caddy
Washed outside compost caddy
I do the paid stuff (full time) from home so I'm trying to fly in between. Next task is to hoover downstairs. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair6 -
FUPA clean washing
HHI, hung on airer
S&S'd kitchen and bathroom

Bought milk

Lunch next, and I want to make a baked rice pudding so will look up Mary Berry's recipe and compare it with Delia's.

Hello. Welcome back returners.
I would like to say I've been flying today but I haven't so I can't. I have however -
got rid of headache
done a long shift at work, more to come
walked Poppet
made an apple pie, it's delicious
and have just finished dailies which included last night's dishes.
The house is a state, the hoover hasn't been run round since Sunday, so what am I going to do next? Play solitaire....Spend less now, work less later.7 -
Lots of nice baking going on by the look of things - think I'll make something tomorrow.
Everywhere hoovered apart from DS3 and gf bedroom
Cleaned hoover head of ridiculous amount of hair
Mogs fed
Going to look at energy prices now. Not only do I need to get on top of flying / flinging / fixing but finances too!
The four Fs then. Read Martin's article on the 3 Ds earlier - need to do that too with my sister as our Mum passed away last year. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair7 -
Love it Jazee!Last night's washing up done, old peanuts and fat balls flung, recycling out. Washed birdfeeder put back together and loaded with sunflower seeds. I'll put it out tomorrow and clean out the other one then.Last two boxes of Not a Thing cream tea crockery ferried down to the hospice shop, plus two heavy comfortable chairs, and long chat had with the manager about civil partnership v marriage options, and the legalities and differences. She's in the same position as I was - over 30 years into a relationship, getting a bit older and thinking about the future. Wills, tax and pension planning etc. She was delighted to hear she doesn't have to change her surname, passport etc and all of that faff.Quick trip to Mr L to source cooking apples (tick), shallots (tick) but no pickling spice or raisins for Delia's green tomato chutney to use up all the rest of the last picking before I chucked out the plants. They did have currents so they're soaking in the vinegar and I bought a chunk of fresh ginger to use instead. If it doesn't work it's not the end of the world but I think it should.Neighbours have kindly asked me in for a simple supper as Belovéd is away. I don't feel able to refuse, but tbh I really love being on my own for a few days. How ungrateful is that. I very much fear that it's been suggested by the neighbour's girlfriend who I think wants to see if she can extract some personal information about another neighbour. A stern rebuff may be necessary and I'm not looking forward to having to do that.Better is good enough.8

Short work day today - there's no money to pay wages this week...luckily I have my pension.

- wudapa
- gym swim
- had flu & Covid jab on the way home. Covid arm is fine but flu arm beginning to ache a little.
- went to post office to get stamps, posted more change of address/health status letters to Mum's friends and treated myself to a C0$ta as there is a machine in the PO/C00p.
- looked up route to get to niece's funeral on Friday; very straightforward and it is then only just over an hour to Mum's. Made online donation to niece's chosen charity and messaged her widower to say I'd done so.
- rang Mum's care home to double check I'd booked the family room for lunch on Saturday as visitors from Canada are coming. While I was on the phone I asked if they could track Mum down as - no surprise - she hasn't been answering her mobile all week. I had a short chat and she sounded fine.
- heard from HR of Christian college confirming they are happy for me to volunteer on Tues & Wed afternoons. They requested 2 references so I've emailed 3 to check it is ok.
- finished putting Mum's address book on spreadsheet.
- started to gather together items to take away at the weekend; that will luckily comprise decluttering of my old laptop (to DB) and a bunch of first-day cover stamps (to Canadian friends).
- made stuffed aubergine with home made aubergine. Yummy.
- filled bird feeders.
- looked up my usual GF flour online and to my horror, couldn't find anywhere stocking it. I hope that is a temporary glitch as it is the only one I can use.
DustyKitten sorry to hear about your Mum.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.7
