ROAD SAFETY
The clocks go back this weekend. Next week will have the highest road casualty figures for the year. Drivers fail to accommodate the change in conditions - the dark, increase in ice, rain, sleet reducing visibility and increasing difficulty in driving. Other road users, especially pedestrians and cyclists, will pay the price. Do your best to ensure that it is not you or your children who suffer. Drivers please pay attention, slow down - better a few seconds late in this world than many years too early in the next.9 -
Sorry I've been absent. So tired, with sore eyes and feeling slightly overwhelmed by the mountain of work still to be done. Too much caffeine - I did a food order with caffeine free drinks being my main priority (mostly available in SM and they are all too far for me to get to atm - most days I can't get to the nearest shops and some days I don't set foot out of the house. I have a backlog of things to go to the cs plus some I need to request be picked up. The order said red grapes were OOS - they came but the drinks were missing.
I need to take care of myself and that means eating properly (the way my body responded greedily to all the veg in the chicken stew), drink more water, move more, work out how to do lots of things while sitting. The back yard and backs are awash with leaves from the devil trees and I keep trying to tell myself that sorting inside the house takes priority. I have now given them the memo about using up food in the house, fridge and freezer and also about collecting broken items to go in the skip (which is going to need elastic sides). They replaced a fan last week but the old broken one is still upstairs and DS3 has a gamer chair which he's been meaning to fix for months. He's been told to buy new legs and attach them or it has to go in the skip.
Beloved has picked a washer dryer which will be their festive gift (long promised). This means the existing 20 year old dryer can be donated or skipped. The current WM has ripped up many towels and bath mats and a few clothes. I'm deciding to let them have the model they want and I will pick a new one when I move. I'm minded to do the same with the fridge-freezer and tall freezer (the FF was given to me by DS2 when he moved in with his gf and the tall freezer was bought after I let DS2 take my existing model about 15 years ago.
The average young couple spends roughly £8,000 fitting out a new home (some of this is often included in the purchase price). I gave all of mine spare plates, pans, basic kitchen equipment when they went off to university along with store cupboard staples and toiletries. When they moved out they took everything from their bedrooms and an assortment of duplicate/ donated items to kit out their new homes/ rentals. The couch I'm sitting on was borrowed by DS1 and his gf (now darling d-i-l) until they could afford to buy the sofas of there choice. It's rather battered now (DS3 has run it into the ground) and I'm slightly disappointed that it's only 16 years old when I expected it to last 20 but the cats had a good scratch when it first arrived and DS3 has worn splits in the fabric. It is officially 'his' couch (the 2 seater is supposed to be mine) and he's reluctant to part with it even though many cs sell a replacement suitable for him for under £200.
Grateful for all the years of service from my furniture and appliances, amusing distractions, getting to the library for more large print books (I'm part way through 2 novels but the small print is difficult even in day time). Well I must go and set some targets and get on with things.9 -

It's pay day and an NSD! Came home and totted up the budgets for oct and looking towards Nov. If my calculations are correct, savings are now back up to the level before I booked my flight to NZ last month. Have paid to savings first. Getting there slowly. Sure I will have missed sth off the budget but have built in a bit of contingency for Nov.
Grateful for having a laugh at work, for managing to eat well and get an NSD in.Student loan £5655

I’m a few days behind. The end of this week was very busy. I managed a nsd (#12) Thursday but no nsd Friday or yesterday. I’ve just looked at some Christmas PJs for my children today. I feel like if I get them early it’s one less job to do when it gets busy in November and December. Also seen a few presents that I may order now. I love being prepared or at least convincing myself I’m prepared. It’s also eases the financial burden of December although makes November tighter. Trying to weigh up whether discounts offered now will be better than discounts offered during Black Friday.
