Dimplex storage heater qm050rf only works with boost on
hello guys
hope everyone is ok
i have the dimplex storage heater, it has worked in the 2 years i have had them. i do switch them off during summer then around september i switch it back on and for the past 2 years it has worked, heat comes out but this time it is just blowing cold air out. if i use boost then the heat works.
could anyone advise please? i have not changed anything, all i do is switch both plugs on then that is it.
many thanks
hope everyone is ok

As they have been turned off rather than just set not to ru , are the times still correct, are they synced up to charge at certain times?1 -

Sounds like you need to try and check that the off-peak restricted time feed from your CU is actually active.Safest way is with (if not confident around wiring) with a non-contact live wire detector pen. (They start at or sub a tenner at DIY shops - Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes etc).BackgroundThe qm050rf series can be wired in single wired mode (live 24.7 - ro dual mode - live 24.7 and restricted for main charge). In dual supply mode - it iirc does not need you to set the charge times - it is shipped with 24/7 charging enabled - and auto uses the restricted live feed (typically e7 these days) to charge the main energy store. The boost heater is iirc a simple fan heater - wired to the 24/7 live wiring. As is the fan and the little control unit in the top of the heater with the display panel. So it's definitely getting the 24/7 live feed.Assuming dual wired - as you show two local spurs - one fused one not - either side of the standard 13A sockets (which shouldn't be feeding NSH) - I'll assume dual wired - and so it would seem possibly your not getting any night time off peak charging into the heater bricks.Do your other NSH heaters work ? (it seems unlikely you would only have one 050 model - as thats their lowest power / energy store rated model). If you have set the charge times explicitly - you need to on other makes / models - that might override your restricted feed detection - and so you need to probably make sure the device time and the off-peak charge times - match your off peak restricted feed times as well.If both supplies are live - perhaps the unit itself has developed a fault - but I'd maybe check (if you can) the supply before calling dimplex or your installer / electrician for help. It's a bit of a pain having to do it overnight on e7 - so check to see if your meter has a boost button - or a sub menu to do temporarily enable the restricted feed for testing - some models do.1

There are two physical plugs, but four things people sometimes call plugs. Going from left to right, with A being to the left of the shelf support in the image, B being slightly behind the shelf support, C being black (possibly USB plug) and D being the one on the right, which ones go into the storage heater?
Can you also check your consumer unit, that is the (usually white, cream) box on the wall, connected directly after the meter and make sure all switches are in the on position.
Do you have the app set up for the heater, or just use the control panel? Can you see when and how much charge it is set to take onboard?1 -
Check the circuit breaker in you meter cupboard for the off peak feed as the boost is probably working off the daytime feed

thank you guys
i have other storage heaters but i only use one and that is the bedroom. i have tried one downstairs lat year and that worked.
there is no app for this heater so i only use the controlling unit. the 2 plugs are on and so is teh fusebox/breaker box.
i do have a thought though and wondering if maybe its not cold enough for the heat to come out? it is sunny outside so i went out and it was warm but indoor its quite cold so maybe outside has something to do with it. sorry if this sounds bit stupid.0 -
