  • Ours always gets paid in the following months payslip. So October would be paid end of November. Could you survive without overtime in your budget and put that towards debts and savings?
Yes the overtime payments will only ever be budgeted in for debt or savings :) the rest of the budget works on just my base salary :)

  • Did a night shift last night and although our start time was later to keep our shift length the same, it's still soul destroying to see the time go backwards :joy:

All planned spends for this week (goes up until this Friday) done, got the pan I wanted yesterday then ordered my costume for the family Halloween party next weekend - £15ish on eBay rather than an expensive one from anywhere else.

Just under £7 cashed out from PA and sent to squirrel fund pot, still £9ish pending so that pot should fill up nicely over the month. Which is good as I need to buy a new part for my exhaust by the end of the month

Last night shift tonight then some much needed days off!

Oh I remember this feeling when I used to work the night shifts, it would be annoying seeing that clock tick backwards 😂
  • I have been using YNAB for 11 months now and I too get excited every time I get paid, its a complete game changer so I am sure you will really start to fly financially once you get going as it will change your habits.
People rave on reddit about it, however I completely get their obsession ;)

I have naturally spent less and saved more, the sheer pain of knowing you have slightly overspent a category so have to move that cash from elsewhere such as your annual car insurance pot .. it really stops one overspending.
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Another YNABer here - I used to use the old YNAB4 version but when that stopped working at the beginning of this year and I couldn't sort it out I decided to bite the bullet and pay for the online version.

I was already one month ahead at that time but since February this year I have managed to get it to nearly 3 months ahead and this includes a couple of regular savers which I was never able to manage before this current YNAB!

I get to play with it several times a month as DH and I both get our state pension weekly; I have an AVC which pays out monthly and also a work pension again monthly so at least 10 times a month and sometimes 12 times a month!

  • Could you add in categories for treat food (late night maccie d’s) and homeware (pots and pans). I keep tweaking mine to add things as I think about them. I have just split my monthly spending money into a separate headed category with 5 weeks underneath. Then I will split the money (depending on 4 or 5 week months) and try to roll over anything unspent, instead of spending it that month.
@joedenise 3 months ahead!! You are my hero!

Very much so! All our systems had a little glitch for about twenty minutes too :joy: LadyWithAPlan said:

I get excited at the moment just logging my transactions, did it with my morning (well, technically afternoon but had a post-night shift nap so feels like morning) coffee!

    Nearly 3 months is amazing!

Haha this is exactly what I have done!!
I'm hoping to avoid late night maccie's in general to be honest it was a night shift routine for a while to always get one on the last shift but I've been fine just taking food in, I haven't really missed it! Once I have a bit more wiggle room in my budget in a couple of months I'll be able to put in a homeware category :)

Loving all of the YNAB love :)

Thank you both.  I'm hoping to get the extra couple of weeks to get to 3 months sorted with our pensions due in the next couple of weeks.

  • Hello MSE world :)

Not much to report, it has been nice being able to have some personal spends! All reconciled on YNAB. Just waiting for tomorrow when my debt direct debits go out and I pay off my last payment on my car finance

Everything else is just ticking along at the moment as it should be. Back to work tomorrow then have a family party Saturday night. Need to pick up something to drink out of my pocket money and hotel is already budgeted for.

Waiting in for my costume to arrive and then off for a run with a friend, can't remember the last time I even attempted a run so that should be a fun experience :joy:

  • It's the 1st of the month!

    Car finance? Gone.
    Debt total? Now under 9k.
One teeny debt has been paid off forever

I ache so badly from my run yesterday but I'm glad I went out and got it done, good to finally take the first step to get back into it.

Everything reconciled on YNAB (some even over my 4.30am coffee as I was so excited :joy: )

Rock and roll Friday of doing washing tonight as I have another early start tomorrow then thankfully that's my last really early start for a couple of weeks as I'm doing a course the week after next.
