with some basic tools i have now fixed the problem - and i am now happier - pictures so far:

It took a day to take out window / shoddy bricks / clean and sort all the used - mortared bricks. Then another day to do the brickwork. I left the top ones overnight, these are now done. Im going to wait for the mortar to dry before re-fitting the window.0

You've done a really good job Atomix. Much better than the so called pro. Also saved yourself money, and will give you confidence for other jobs.
