Had a quote for x2 windows, 1 is replace an existing window, and the other is knock out wall (single skin/garage) and fit another window. Paid up front for the windows. The one that was replaced is a1. The other is absolutely shocking. (Brickwork). So he knows im not happy and has offered to redo it, im not confident in his skills to do this. I am now going to get a bricky in. Where do I stand with the money owed? Happy to pay for the replacement window, but there is no way im paying for the other work… thoughts?

He was coming back to repoint them.He wasnt cheap quote it was expensive.
i specifically said do you do brickwork- obviously he wanted the work/money.0 -
Luckily i have the bricks to redo it, but i cannot afford another chance, I dont want people practising on my house, I want an experienced brickie.0

Hopefully it wont come to it, but legally just out of principle Im not paying the full remainder- as I dont want to take the risk….0

Looking at the photos I'd say your right not to want him to finish the job.0

Has he put a lintel across the top ?If the joists for the garage roof rest on the brickwork above that window, it will eventually sag putting pressure on the frame & glass. even if there are no joists, a row of bricks above will cause the frame to distort - uPVC is not structural !Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
No the lintel is on the inside set back -

The window on the right is the replacement0

The one on the left is the issue0

Paid up front for the windows.
Most window replacement companies do not require any up front payments.
Although if it was a smaller operation, paying saying a 25% deposit, 75% on completion could be OK.0
