Depends whereabouts in Millbrook that you're looking
You can find some reasonable ish spots, a lot of it is a council estate, and some of it is industrial and docks.
It depends on your finances to what you can afford, next door is Regents Park and Shirley, again some areas are okay in Regents Park, and there's some areas to avoid in the Shirley area such as Shirley WarrenHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. "Over time these families have built up investments in ISAs, stocks and shares or in a savings account."

Not sure how far you want to be along the south but we moved to Fareham and are really pleased with it here. Its 2 mins from the motorway and a good area.0

thanks, all for your quick replies!
I am currently living with friends in Dorset, and really love it here, but there's coming a time to move on...
So anyway, I currently cant afford anywhere in dorset and to get a property in Bournemouth (however great that would be) would make the commute to work even worse than it already is! So I thought a good compromise would be Southampton....
I have just been trawling through RightMove and am amazed at what you can buy in Southampton for 100-140,000!
Any more thoughts would be welcomed!

You could try Totton, Marchwood or surrounding areas. Some parts are a bit rough but not generally as bead a Millbrook, and nearer to Ringwood etc whilst maintaining good access to the M27 for Winchester or through Romsey for Winchester via Hursley.0
