My mind is very muddled, the general plan is in it, but have to keep looking at my notes for exact figures, how much I can spend etc. I need to LEARN these amounts off by heart so as not to make mistakes, like today I had it in my head that I will be paying £200 tommorrow when I now know it has to be £250, keeping on top all the time will be the key for me I think.

I know exactly what you mean by this and i think this is something that a lot (if not most) of dfw do. Its a continious review that you need to get into. Create a new habit. I can say this because I first came on this site about 2 years ago, got some great advice which helped out loads and I did get on track but due to circumstances, realised that i took what i learned to actually get myself more into debt and when life starting going downhill realised I needed this site as I hadnt created better strategies.

    Oh and for tomorrow..... xx

why not write out your budget on a slip of paper and pop it in your purse? that way you can always have a quick glance to remind yourself when you're out and about. bet it would help squash spending urges too :j

Just pootling by to say hello.

Hope you have a bit better day today. I know when I was unwell this time last year, some days I only got through by breaking it down almost to the hour. I became incredibly regimented in my day such as I used to panic if the clock said 8.00am when I was leaving for work (the root of the problem) instead of 7.59am. It was bizarre but it became part of my life, some days were worse than others generally.

I'm still not 100% but I do find that something which keeps me company is the radio and just having it on helps me through the day rather than the absolute silence in the house whilst i'm working (I work from home now), if it gets too quiet sometimes I find myself dwelling too much.

I think you are doing fantastically and it doesn't matter what you say on your thread - rant, rave, laugh, cry all you want - it's your thread.

  • Just dropped by to say well done, every time I look in here you've done a load more. It's easy to see the part of the mountain you haven't climbed since your eyes are focused ahead but don't forget to look back sometimes and see how far you've come. Sounds to me like you had a dose of the late night blues (and we all get those :)) and at times like this if you don't feel c**p about one thing you'll feel it about something else IYSWIM. I know I lay last night worrying about not visiting a relative who is ill and feeling a lot of the same things you're feeling. You are an inspiration to your kids, you're in a tricky situation and you're clawing your way out of it. Your determination will be a lesson in itself and so will your eventual success.

And please please don't beat yourself up about past mistakes. first of all, we all make mistakes and second of all you were/are ill and there are good reasons why things got away from you a bit. Think, if a friend were to tell your story would your first feeling for her not be sympathy? Give yourself the same courtesy!!

Glad to hear about the CSA too, stick with it, it's money your kids are entitled to!

And do come on here to rant, we all need to do that sometimes...

**edit I always keep a little notebook on me with whatever financial stuff I'm thinking about at the minute. I do it cos I have a bad memory generally but it might work for you too**
  • Hiya everyone, I hope you are all ok.

Well talk about 2 steps forward 3 steps back.

Went online this AM to check balance so I could ring mortgage company with £250 and I could not believe my eyes to see that I was MINUS £190 - the bank had failed to cancel the DD to the mortgage company and the mortgage company naturally tried to take it!!! Worse still its a basic bank account and I cant overdraw!

I have a print out in front of me dated 31st Dec and next to mortgage companies direct debit it says CANCELLED.

I was livid and got on the blower and went doo lally (severe stress coming out by the bucketful now) and the woman said it was too late to cancel it and she would put me through to lending department ?????? So on comes Joe Ruddy Blogggs with an attitude bigger that mine saying it was not the banks fault it was mine cos I did not cancel in time. But I did.

So I asked if the other companies whose directs debits had been cancelled were psychic cos I cancelled them at the same time and they didnt succeed in trying to take it - well he was having none of it and would not take any blame, I cancelled the DD with 4 working days to go, you only need 3!!! So I told him to get off the line, he was useless and put someone one on who is older than 14 and has been through some sort of education system. At this point he took enormous exception and hung up on me lol Cant blame him I was rancid!! I had his name.

I got back on the phone and asked for a manager straight off, I get on there and gives it what for to this supervisor who apologised profusely for the inconvenience, refunded me the £35 bounce fee and told me my money would be back in overnight - no ruddy good when the mortgage company were expecting their £250 today, lets just hope the mortgage company are open in the morning.

CSA rang, the employer admitted 'an error' on their part and promised to raise a cheque with the new payroll company - yeah whatever

Saw my nurse, cried buckets in MacDonald's, nice one, she is asking social worker to see me as a favour for a one off so he can write a letter of support asking creditors to back off for a bit while I sort myself out - better than nowt I suppose, she perked me up as she always does just for me to come home to find huge gaps in my roof where the slates have fallen in the wind and cracked.

Now I have to blag some poor unsuspecting someone into going onto my roof to replace them.

I am realising that with the kids being home £20 a week food is impossible, they are sick of mince and boiled ham and I am sick of being by the cooker.

Am struggling to see positivity right now, the only thing thats keeping me going is saying to myself ' Its only money, no one has told me my kids are dying, I am not dying, so keep it in perspective'.

There you go another whinging whiney post from me, I should probably stay away for a while cos miserable !!!!!!s tend to bring you bring you down, so perhaps I should stay away until the positive fairy pops along and kicks me up the jacksy.

Oh one good thing, my occupational therapist is speaking to my college Monday to see if they will give me a hardship grant to help with getting to school.
  • Hun there will always be low days. Even years down the line. Try and ride them out and focus on all the good stuff you have used.

As for food? What about homemade pizzas? That way the kids get exactly what toppings they want! Again try the oldstyle board for recipes and cost effectiveness and for other cheap meal ideas. :)
  • Dont stay away, vent all you like, sounds like you deserve to anyway with your stupid bank.

As for food if you really cant stick to the £20 use the Old Sytle board to be a cost saving as possible. If you go over the £20 a tad then fine just dont do what I have done in the past and just given up and gone on a spending spree at the supermarket! The kids will be back at school soon.

Keep trying to see the good parts of the day although I know that can be easier said than done. You are doing sooo well.
