  • I get my Peugeot (petrol) serviced at a Peugeot dealership, it's usually around £170 for interim, £370 for full, and the six year one was around £900 including the timing belt change. I also get a fully itemised bill, and a roughly 40 point check report on the car. The indy I used to use for my old banger before that, charged about £120, but was basically an oil and filter change with a single line on the bill saying 'service done'. I prefer the Peugeot approach, and fairly happy to pay for it.
  • BMW 2l petrol. First oil service at dealer £360. That included £32 to update service records at BMW.

Same service at independent £217 and it included updating service records.

I recommended independent to my friend and she was very happy with their services.

Toyota has set low prices for service, so I take my imported car there. Didn't bother to look for independent.

There is always the option to buy the oil, filters etc. yourself and then get the BMW dealership to do the work, if you can't actually do it yourself for a variety of reasons.
That way one only pays for the labour charge which isn't too bad.
It's the genuine BMW parts which have crazy prices.
The same spec oil and parts are available at a third of the cost, so it usually works out cheaper than the local independent workshop.
Arthritis of my finger joints means I can't do much work on the car myself.
  • I would say that's a fair price
  • Just booked the Zoe in for her second year main dealer service - £159* which I presume is just to replace the cabin filter, plug it into the mainframe and stamp the book.

    *includes “free” health check

When do you reckon on it needing a new battery?
And how much might that cost?

Every four years according to the schedule - £180 from the main dealer’s menu pricing but I can probably do it cheaper online.

Yes, I know what you’re going to say “wow, it’s a serviceable item unlike ICEs that don’t require a replacement and your last one lasted 15 years” - you have to remember that they are much smaller in EVs and hybrids and have a very different set of demands on them.

That wasn't the battery I meant.

Well then nothing because there is an 8 year warranty on the traction battery and we don’t keep cars that long 🤷
