    Wow.

That full service is quite the comprehensive list.

How much do they charge for all that work?
Full 180, interim 115 (plus oil 20 due to performance vehicle). MOT 40. I'm in the south east.

I arranged a 'full' car service and was quoted £270.

Here is my mistake and naivety-

I asked if it included an oil change and filters and yes was the answer, all good. But I assumed a full service would at least include checking the battery, coolant, new spark plugs, wipers  as well as an oil change and filters.

The car service took the garage about 30-45 minutes and then I was informed it had been done. I was a bit surprised. I was told it had 4 things done - oil change, oil filter, air filter and 4 spark plugs.

    For £270?

I googled  and found that fitting these filters, plugs and an oil change is really quite do-able. That the filters etc are not expensive.

I recognise that I had a qualified and experinced mechanic to do it of course and had to pay for that experinence Labour and so on which is good.

Maybe I am missing something and very happy to be corrected but it did seem expensive for the work,  time and cost ofm items.

Anyone else had a go at servicing their car?

That can be the cost of a inspection service at main dealers.

All garages & cars are different. There is no such thing as a standard on servicing.

If in doubt ask exactly what is being replaced.

That list by @Altior is nothing but a visual check list that could be done in 30 mins with no problem. Not a single item changed. So that is never a full service.😶‍🌫️
Expect a phone call with a long list of requirements & a much larger bill 🤣

That's right, it's in addition to the oil and filter change. I suppose there is no concrete definition of what constitutes a 'full' service, however the business model of the mechanics I use is that the service is a hook in the hope to identify work that needs doing, which is then more profitable. They identified I needed a new battery on the last service, but I opted to get that sorted myself.

PS, I've used them for five years and the only stuff they have tried to get me to do are consumables, ie that battery, tyres, pads. Plus brake fluid change every two years. The model is to get extra work identified via the service, however I don't see any evidence of them finding work that's not needed. I already knew that the battery was approaching end of life.

This week I received a minor ("A" Service) quote from my local Mercedes Main Stealer Dealer.

An A service is basically an Oil / Filter change, plus lots of "check this, check that, check the other" (basically 90% of the stuff they would check on the £50 MOT anyway).

    Are you ready ?

    £1063.32!

I have no idea how they can sleep at night, I really don't.  :s

A 'full service' will vary according to the make, model, and mileage.
It may also include things I don't think have been mentioned yet - like:
    Air-filter
    Cabin-filter
    Fuel-filter
  • I have to say it's eye opening the cost of a service and what they actually do.

£1063.32 is certainly an eye opener ,it is no wonder people get their cars serviced at local indy,s when out of warranty.
