I have to say it's eye opening the cost of a service and what they actually do.
£1063.32 is certainly an eye opener ,it is no wonder people get their cars serviced at local indy,s when out of warranty.
Me too. I only really get their quotes now to laugh at them!

My local Indy who is an ex official Merc tech and uses genuine Merc parts and the exact same Mercedes specified oil (Petronas Syntium 5000 DM) charges me £238.56.

Not sure where the other £824.76 worth of main dealer "value" is coming from?
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Full service never seems to be well defined and the dealers often refer to major and minor and often the difference between those (after the first 4 or 5 years) is if brake and Clutch fluid change is included, and perhaps pollen filter. For £270 id want clutch and brake fluid and an MOT where i live (not mercedes benz!)

My car came with Service Inclusive which cost  £1482 for all services and service parts up to 5 years old or 62,000 miles.
Includes topping up oil and screen-wash.

Or like me never bother with a service.

The service managers (& those working under them) work for bonuses. They get a certain allocation for each car prepared for sale.  If sales are doing badly guess who gets charged for "stuff" to make up the figures.
  • Peugeot run a 4 year cycle.
Year 1 oil & Filter, Adblue top ups plus checks. £209
Year 2 Oil & Filter, Adblue, Pollen filters, brake fluid change, top ups, checks. £259
Year 3 Oil & Filter, Adblue, checks. £209
Year 4 Oil & filter, Air, pollen and fuel filter change, Adblue, brake fluid change, checks. £399
I took out a service contract for years 1-5 £13.42 a month via Peugeot.
Years 6-10 £14.99 a month. Via Peugeot local dealer.

I made sure I had it all spelled out before I took the deal.

Minor, interim, main, major, Just words that mean nothing.
    Except the price goes up.

That's not even as simple as "years".

Some things assume 8k/year for break-even between mileage and time. Others 11k, others 16k.

Different cars, different engines will have different intervals, too - f'rinstance, if that Peugeot was a Puretech petrol, it'd be six years for the cambelt, not ten.

This week I received a minor ("A" Service) quote from my local Mercedes Main Stealer Dealer.

An A service is basically an Oil / Filter change, plus lots of "check this, check that, check the other" (basically 90% of the stuff they would check on the £50 MOT anyway).

    Are you ready ?

    £1063.32!

I have no idea how they can sleep at night, I really don't.  :s

I knew a guy years ago who treated himself to a Mercedes. His first service cost over £800 and he was so upset he immediately went and traded it in. I've no idea what he lost on it, but he was convinced he couldn't live with it knowing the servicing costs.

A person I work with has a friend with a supercar. He claims that a service, including changing the gearbox oil, runs to 5 figures.

Find an independent authorised Mercedes repairer - there are plenty about.  They have all the knowledge and access to the same software and digital service records, but at potentially half the labour bill of the gin palaces.

No gin available at BMW dealerships - only batista coffee and croissants.
