  • Yay, well done! Oh, and you will get to chat online to other OU students and they have LOADS of chat rooms on their conferencing suite, lol. They even have a conference just for pagans ;)

To get the funding, I think, you will have to link the course to a degree (even if you don't actually want to take a full degree) so link it to an Open Degree when the form comes (email me if you want a hand with it all, I'm a veteran OU form filler lol).
Oooh I didn't realise that.. does it matter that I didn't like it when I registered?

  • nope - you can link it on the form that comes. MSN me when the stuff comes and I will help you ;) It's something to do with the way the government funds HE, and you have to be seen to be working towards a degree or qualification in order to get the funding - or at least that always used to be the case. Registering online really just registers your interest - the forms that come are the important bits.

Thanks I appreciate the help.... even Ste's looking at OU courses now he's realised we'd get funding :)

  • I really cannot recommend the OU highly enough - I could never have afforded to do a degree with them and their fantastic funding! It opens up a whole new world.

I feel the courses are very limited for choice :( I could do my crim degree though but its with psych. I could do a degree in molecular science but think I'd have to go away for a week or something for lab work.

The funding - you have to pay it back through the OU right? The part-time grant from SLC you don't, or can you apply for this through the OU?
  • No the funding does not have to be repaid - it is a grant.

oh so its the grant from the government not the finance thing from the OU. How much does your income have to be to get the funding?
  • Some of the courses can be a little restrictive if they have a compulsory residential school, but I have just avoided anything like that. I guess it depends what you want to do and what other options are available to you. For some of us there is no alternative to OU study - there is no way I could have gone to a face-to-face university financially or otherwise with 3 small children.
