  • How much do you have left when Ste gets paid after all the bills? Would it be possible to keep some aside to cover you each week? We are going to be in the same boat soon as we pay everything off our monthly wages then live week to week on tax credits but they are going down quite a bit in April. I'll be interested to see what you do and how it works out.

Now ste has the pearl, think about selling the Roland, I know you mentioned it before. Honestly it's cool with me, it was a gift and is entirely yours to do with what you need to. It would certainly give you a bunch of breathing space to decide what you're going to do work wise.

I wasn't thinking exam standard - more the kind of parents who will pay £15-20 an hour for someone to keep little trevor occupied when he says he wants to be in a band - take an old guitar along so they don't have to shell out or listen to him before he gets bored....

if i had some kind of market-able skill like that i would be putting it to good use.... doing a book keeping course in the hope that some [STRIKE]mug[/STRIKE] i mean, small business will let me do their books for a princely sum.....

definately worth considering, even if only thru word of mouth, drop your rates a little so you are not aiming for the same market... and you won't be claiming to offer certifiable lessons.

hark at you, being a CAB/Debt advisor, helping someone out with their finances!! shame you can't charge for that! Although kinda defeats the object doesn't it!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Good luck with re-jigging the finances Sar. Wish I had a good idea to suggest
for you too. Hope all goes well for Ste's Dad. XX

  • Will take an 'inventory' of the freezer later and do a strict meal plan based on that for the coming week. /quote]

I defrosted the freezer last weekend and decided to write down exactly what I had in it... there was the makings of 21 meals ! plus assorted soups and bread rolls, I was very surprised at how much there was.

Sar, I don't think you're in a position at the moment to wait for the CAB job. You're budget is really tight and I don't mean to piddle on fireworks but Ste's income will be dropping in April too (when the new tax rules come in, everyone except 40% tax people will be screwed).
You need to think for the next six months or year and see what's going to be changing, even if it's only roughly.
Doing the OU course is great, I'm just wondering if you have time for everything as your budget seems to show your need some paid employment.

I hope all goes well for Ste's Dad. Is Ste's wages all spoken for?
