They won't let me open a second account because I swapped my first one elsewhere for £200. Clearly I'm not nearly dodgy enough for their usual customer base. 

I have heard people say this but I opened a new one within a year of switching out an account without any issues. Maybe hit and miss

that one year ban rule used to be the case in the past, however since around beginning of the year they do not accept returning customers at all

I opened and switched in September 2022
I believe I opened the account / joint account on the 8th January this year so maybe I got lucky

I had a joint and a sole account. Transferred sole over. Less than a year tried to open sole account. It was referred and declined. After 1 year since closing tried account and it was opened straight away. 

I think.it use to be 12 months since closure.
