Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?
Why did you decide to swap default for EV? I'm thinking of going the other way round.. as 20:30-22:30 would come more handy.
Only to get the no exit fee 12 month fix at very low rates for another year through next winter. I also could switch back later if it doesn’t work out cheaper.
Here is a copy of the latest Elexon Circular issued today :
23 May 2025
Further Notice of Default: Tomato Energy Limited (BSC
Party ID: MARIGOLD)
What is
happening?
At its meeting on 8 May 2025, the BSC Panel found that
Tomato Energy (BSC Party ID: MARIGOLD) continues to be in persistent
breach of BSC obligations since its last Notice of Default on 7 January
2025.
Tomato Energy had previously been in breach of its BSC
obligations for a period greater than six months and the BSC Panel is
disappointed with its lack of progress in resolving its issues.
The Panel therefore approved the issuing of a further Notice
of Default in accordance with BSC Section H.3.1.1(f).
With Ofgem’s approval, the BSC Panel suspended Tomato
Energy’s ability to register further Metering Systems and Balancing
Mechanism Units effective from 23 May 2025. This is due to missing its
Error and Failure Resolution (EFR) milestones in relation to Settlement
Performance and a further decline in its Performance.
The Panel was disappointed to see further BSC issues
including a lack of engagement with the Market-wide Half-Hourly
Settlement (MHHS) programme and its readiness for MHHS migration,
significant material issues identified in the BSC Audit findings, and breaches
of Large Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) / Annualised Advance
(AA) thresholds.
The Panel was unanimous in its concern for the wider risk
posed by Tomato Energy to the market, noting the potential impacts on
other BSC Parties and end consumers. The Panel's decision prevents
Tomato Energy from registering any new customers until they can
demonstrate clear improvement in meeting obligations under the BSC.
The Panel have set out milestones for Tomato Energy to meet before it
will consider lifting this suspension. These include significant and
consistent improvement to its Settlement Performance, progress in
submitting plans to the MHHS Programme, and plans to address its BSC
Audit and Large EAC/AA issues.
This notice constitutes notification to the BSC Party
of the decisions of the Panel. The Panel noted that nothing in this
resolution should be taken as preventing it from deciding at any time to
take any further, additional, and different or other steps under Section
H3.2.1 of the BSC in relation to the Defaulting Parties.
How long until Tomato's CEO pops up with another "move along, nothing to see here" social media message?
N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member. 2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 33MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.
Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.
I've now sent complaint asking for 2 x £40 for no final bill within 6 weeks. This will be the kiss of death as whenever I do this, they close down and I get nothing.
Think that pretty much is the end. Ofgem unhappy at them for failing to pay their bills and yet, they still fail to pay their bills. Surely only a matter of time now until their supply licence is revoked.

Yes, he does seem to have gone radio silent of late. Perhaps the legal team have removed the valves from his transmitter and requested he remains off the air until they either climb out of the big hole they have dug for themselves, or fold.
So nothing really changes, all it says no new customers any time soon?
For those already on board - that's good news really - if they found them struggling with money they would be shut down, but they just continue preventing their growth until they fix their underlying issues - which is very expected.
I may try to sign up to another deal with Tomato then to extend my current fix for another 12 months.

Elecon could kick them out of the market, which would precipitate their failure. Seems they accept that the sums involved aren't enough to warrant that, at least at present.
Ofgem are still deliberating on their provisional order but this won't help Tomato's case there.
