Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

Doesn’t appear to link only to solar tariffs in the T&C document though?Derek_Duval said:
This may be referring to their Solar Panel Tariff. The monthly fixed cost has an inclusive energy amount along with the solar panels, shown below. The other tariffs do not mention any usage on sign up.withaspritz said:BarelySentientAI said:
The estimated consumption on the quote.withaspritz said:Following this closely. We have an EV currently on Eon Next but Tomato is much much cheaper.
I read about an Agreed Usage amount in the fine print for tomato, and that if you exceed that amount they can charge you more. Anyone know how this Agreed Usage amount is decided?
From their terms:5.5 In the event that You exceed the Agreed Usage at any Nominated Electricity SupplyPoint, You shall pay to Us any costs (including but not limited to additional use ofsystem charges), losses or expenses incurred by Us for the provision of, and as aresult of, that excess. So if you use more than the estimated usage, they reserve the right to charge excessive costs on top of the billSounds bonkers. Is it a fixed or variable tariff?
If wholesale rate is say 15p overnight (like last night according to Octopus Agile prices) and I use more than my estimate charging at 5p, will they then apply a 10p expenses incurred charge to each unit over the estimated usage? What if I get a new EV with a larger battery, or decide to put the dishwasher on overnight tooCan I request to set my estimated usage really high to avoid this?
Seems a bit dodgy to me?

No, there's other errors aswell, like stating all their prices exclude vat, which they've confirmed is incorrect. I haven't and no-one else appears to have been given an agreed usage on sign up of another tariff. I don't see how they could enforce it.withaspritz said:

I just did quote using my postcode which is Merseyside and N. Wales - our standing charges and unit rates are always higher than many other regions - so was surprised to get the same unit rates & standing charges as the OP in the online quote. What actual rates have folk been given when they sign up?coupleuk said:Looking at Tomato Energy for our electric only property.
They are offering 12M FIXED Tariffs which are based on your chosen lifestyle - with Daily Standing Charge as low as 40.82p
The tariff Im looking at gives me a Unit Rate of;
00:00 to 06:00 = 5.00p
06:00 to 09:30 = 23.16p
09:30 to 11:30 = 13.37p
11:30 to 22:00 = 23.16p
22:00 to 00:00 = 13.37p
Its the low Standing Charge that appeals most - with the few reduced hours a bonus on top.
These are FIXED for 12 Months
Is anyone with Tomato?

^ Doing a quote for Eastern, on that tariff the SC is 45.35p/day with the three rates 5.56, 23.12, and 14.86p/kWh.0

Also noticed you get the lower standing charge if you click the 'Battery Storage' option otherwise it is 45.3p per day in my area but if you opt for the 'Work From Home' or the '9 - 5 Worker' option you get a higher standing charge of 53.35p - how they came up with that - no idea!

Just one follow up post to say having started a thread the SpeakEV forum re Tomato and someone kindly pointing me to the trustpilot reviews I will hold back on making any switch until people come and let us know that they are being billed properly based on time of use. Those that have switched plus kindly continue to update on here - thank you.

The lower standing charge plus the half price at 9.30-11.30 would work quite well for me (with some changes to when I do my cooking etc) but does depend on how well their system works. That time slot would be ideal for heating the house up as well, and would only take a relatively low end air to air heat pump to beat gas.0

Some users on the FB group have started to receive MyWatts data, some looks correct and a couple have reported small discrepancies.JohnPo said:Just one follow up post to say having started a thread the SpeakEV forum re Tomato and someone kindly pointing me to the trustpilot reviews I will hold back on making any switch until people come and let us know that they are being billed properly based on time of use. The current finding of MyWatts is the graph data is half hour out, 00:30 to 01:00 data is showing at midnight to 00:30. The costing is half hour out in the opposite direction, the cheap rate is being calculated between 23:30 to 5:30, should be midnight to 6:00.Next year we'll be millionaires!0
