Just to clarify the above statement - No conventional electric heater is any more efficient than another except electric boilers (nasty, horrible things) or heat pumps - A well configured heat pump can deliver 3kW or more of heat for every kW of electricity consumed. If I had the option of spending £2K+ each on a bunch of Fischer heaters or a similar amount for an ASHP, I'd go for the latter every time.
    what does ASHP mean ?
ASHP - Air Source Heat Pump.
If you have any questions on that type of heating pop over to https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/heat-pumps

I've seen several on ebay, half the price of a new dimplex quantum. Some do not come with bricks. Where can I buy the bricks ?
The product code for the bricks is Dimplex 047243 (3 pack).
Just over £40 for each pack. Could amount to £400-500 for a set of bricks for one heater.

I wouldn't bother getting one without bricks. You could also try facebook market place or selling groups in your area.

Absolutely. Wait a bit, and find some that are complete with bricks.
Facebook Marketplace is also good - possibly better.

    I need 2 x 2000w and I x 1500w rad.
The largest Quantum is rated at 1500w output. List here of model ratings:

    QM050RF Input 1100w  Output  500w
    QM070RF Input 1650W Output  700w
    QM100RF Input 2200w  Output 1000w
    QM125RF Input 2760w  Output 1250w
    QM150RF Input 3300w  Output 1500w

Just to go off on a slight tangent, have you concidered mini split air conditioners? (with heat pump)
If you have space for the outside fan unit (s) they can be 3-4 times more efficient than a storage heater, and you get the added benefit of air conditioning i the summer.
Of course if you have economy 7 or one of the smart tarrifs, your probably charging the storge heater at the cheap rate?

I eventually went with aircon over storage heaters.
Similar scenario where I needed to replace an old electric warm air storage heater. Rare system unlike the usual space heater type that the OP has.

The aircon system is multi split with three
2500w indoor air handlers and a 7.5kw inverter outdoor unit.
Mini split A/C I think is one outdoor heatpump with a single indoor handler.

For electric heating, aircon, HHR storage heaters or wet system/rads with heatpump are really the only efficient options available.

There's nothing wrong with electric radiators (non storage). They're 100% efficient whether they're oil filled, convector or expensive clay core german type.
It's the cost of electricity compared to gas that's the issue.
Ok for secondary heating, bedroom use or maybe in small rooms with good insulation.
  • Thanks for above comments. I'm the wrong side of 70 and the outlay for air source or heat pumps or aircon systems is too hi for me. I will never recoup my investment.
As has been suggested I'm looking on FB markets place, there are a few options for storage heaters and some Dimplex Quantum rads for around £350. Just waiting for some that are not a million miles away

    Cheers

I think that's unquestionably your best bet, Moley. Straightforward replacement with an improved product. You just need someone happy to do the grunt work :-)
