  • That didn't paste well.

    heres the email:

    Morning Callum,

I’m still after this being clarified by email please.

The manager has simply said they are “too old” and I can see nothing mentioning an expiry date or a date they must be used by nor can I see anything else invalidating these vouchers or any written reason they should not be accepted in any of the Ts&Cs.

As I have collected, completed and kept theses receipts for future use as advised by the staff (the staff advised me to keep them as they had no expiry date so lasted until used), I still feel they are valid and should be accepted - please can you point me at something that specifies they have a cut-off date or reason in the Ts&Cs invalidating them.

As I have previously states I completed my part of the agreement to complete them, I just expect McDonalds to honour their end , and other McDonalds haven’t had any issue in taking them.

I have been advised to get this information in writing before deciding if I want to further this elsewhere.

     Many thanks

That's all well and good, however the next stage would be Small Claims Court. What would you put your claim in for?

    And against whom?

Given that the majority of McDonald's branches in the UK are operated by franchisees, it would be helpful if the OP could clarify which "McDonald's" entities they've been in touch with?

Each of the options listed by the OP in their first post costs about £5 (eg Big Mac is £4.99) and they have 'about 30' receipts so a claim for £150 would sound reasonable.

I note the OP says, '...I completed my part of the agreement to complete them, I just expect McDonalds to honour their end , and other McDonalds haven’t had any issue in taking them.'

    McDonalds are separate franchises.
Every promotion I have seen has included the contract term 'available at participating restaurants only'.
Could that be the issue here?

But the offer is for £1.99, so 30 receipts equals £59.70. Or would it be £150 - £59.70?
Personally some battles are worth picking, this I don't think is one.

If there was no expiry date on the original vouchers, then you should still be eligible to use them (despite the desperate attempts by some on here to claim you must be wrong and there must be a expiry date given).

Enforcing that is likely to be the difficulty. Your best bet would be to email customer services again, explaining the issue and seeking a resolution. Otherwise you'd have to ask if you're willing to take them to small claims court to enforce your rights.
    Dramatic much?

    1 post.
4 responses incorrectly telling them they were wrong.
    0 helpful comments.

Sadly it's too often the way on here.
  • @Alderbank - The McDonalds in question is Easteligh, Swan center and they have themselves accepted the vouchers up until recently (Well I only go 3 or 4 times a year so 4 months ago ish they acepted them)

and  'available at participating restaurants only'. doesn't appearon eith the receipt or the Ts&Cs page.
  • I havew got a responce from Customer services
Thread from Customer servceis email comms
    ----------------------------
    Good Afternoon David,

    Thank you for your response.

Can you confirm if you showed the physical receipts or the £1.99 FFT codes you was given for processing the survey.

    We await your response.
    ----------------------------
    Morning Joseph,

Yes they are the original receipts, rather faded but still legible and original.
    ----------------------------
    Thank you for your response.

You will need to fill in the FFT survey to receive the codes which can be used in store.

    We hope this helps.
    ----------------------------
I have done that and they are refusing them (Please read previous comms).

It this confirmation that they are valid and should be accepted as they have been completed inline with the Ts&Cs  and I can find no “Too Old” date specified anywhere.
    ----------------------------
    Thank you for your response.

Can you provide a screenshot or photo of the Voucher Codes received after completing the survey?

    We await your response.
    ----------------------------
Attached scan of 2 of the receipts as requested.
    *Scans of receipts sent
    ----------------------------
    Thank you for your response.

If you follow the steps on the receipt on completing the survey you can then receive the voucher.

    Kind regards,
    ----------------------------
Can you inform the Eastleigh McDonalds and specifically their Manager of this as they are currently refusing them.

I will also take in a copy of this email thread when I next go in.

Please confirm that Eastleigh Manager has been notified.
    ----------------------------
    Thank you for your response.

The food for thought survey would need to be completed in order to receive the voucher.
    ----------------------------
I have sent you a scan of 2 of the completed receipts after completing the survey FFT Surveys.

The 5 digit number received for completing the survey has been added.

The receipt IS the voucher. (These are from before your QR system was introduced).

    Please advise what you mean?
    ----------------------------
Thank you for your response we can advise again the receipt is not the voucher and to complete the mentioned steps in order to receive the voucher.
    ----------------------------
    Hiya,

The steps on the receipt say :

Goto www.mcdfoodforthought.com and enter this 12 digit code
At the end of the survey, write your 5 digit offer code here
Bring this receipt and code with you on your next visit to redeem the offer

    I have completed the steps.

So the receipt once completed with 5 digit offer code is the voucher – As I have already said these are old and before the QR system so the only thing given to you for completing the survey was the 5 digit code to enter on the receipt.

    Thanks
    ----------------------------
Please speak with the store and if you need further assistance with this matter afterwards please contact us back if there's any issues.
    ----------------------------
So they are Valid and should be accepted ?

The manager of the store has refused to take them as he has said they are “too old”

When I completed them I was informed there was no expiry date on them and believe they are Valid and I can find nothing in the Ts and Cs regarding them being “too old”. In fact the Ts&Cs specifically cover receipts completed prior to Nov 1st ’23 – which these are.

    Regards
    Dave
    ----------------------------
We have advised you what the steps are and are unsure how else we may assist you.

Please follow the steps provided, if there's any issues ask the store and if there are still any issues please contact us back.
    ----------------------------
OK, I’ll try using them again and take in this thread with the ref number and see what happens.

    Thanks
    Dave
  • So I'm going to take in the transcript, Ts&Cs page and receipt and try again and see what happens.

As I only get a McD's every 3 or 4 months I probably wont go till sept/oct but will post an update here (For completness)

It looks like hoarding these has come up before https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6263618/mcdonalds-food-for-thoughts-expiry Although that member didn’t get around to completing the surveys.

I do understand the issue of completing the surveys promptly - but that's easily addressed by having the online survey system only allow you to review visits done within the last x weeks. Upon completion you could get a code / voucher which is valid for much longer or indefinitely. At that point you've earned a reward and its like any other voucher or gift card. Short expiry dates on vouchers / gift cards is just a way for companies to take back something they gave you.

    They're from 2020 ish

If they gave you a year surely that is more than enough. Expecting 4 years is a bit much, given how often prices rise.

If you only go 3 or 4 times a year. You should just use one on the next visit.
