^^^ Surely if you buy your stamps with your food shopping and pay with CC that will be fine

I remember a few ,years ago I bought gift cards at supermarket with the shopping and paid with a card, pretty sure it was a CC, it can not differentiate between food & card.

  • Correct, but to get the blue light discount at some shops you have to buy vouchers first via a website and then use the voucher in-store. The website selling the voucher gets identified in the transaction as having a merchant category code which will trigger the transaction as being equivalent to a cash advance.

I haven't ordered a card- yes, I qualify  but I doubt I would get my money's worth. I tend to buy lots of craft oddments online (local craft shops have gone) and no really major purchases (unless something large kicks the bucket!!).

It doesn't go through as a cash transaction on my Barclaycard, and I get 0.5% cashback....
  • Ooo interesting. Thank you.

Blue Light Card now uses Reward Gateway for its reloadable cards. We’ve topped ours up with Barclaycard* and a Nationwide CC and not been charged a cash advance by either.

    * We get cashback on this card and first used it without checking, then realised we’d probably be charged, but were pleasantly surprised.

I save on my gym membership which is a bonus. I've had mine a year now and probably used it twice in restaurants.

And, AIUI, buying a voucher and paying with that breaks the S75 protection you’d get by paying directly with the card, so worth bearing in mind if it’s a sizeable purchase
