we were talking about this in the playground today and i was told that lots of women gain weight all over, so larger size clothes would be fine. i've stayed the same size and just grown a space-hopper in my belly, that's why larger tops don't fit right, i haven't even got a larger chest.

Heehee! I am exactly the same at the moment...though I am several weeks behind you, so there is still time for things to start 'busting out all over'.

I haven't got bigger anywhere except the bump. (boobs have increased by only one size so far so they don't make any difference, they weren't anything to write home about before anyway).People keep saying how huge I am, and how I'm 'carrying it all out in front'... this one tickles me as I always have an urge to say "well, where else would I be carrying it...in a large shoulder bag?". Even a shop assistant, whom I didn't even know, said I looked like I had a big beach ball up my top...nice!

I couldn't wear ordinary things that were just bigger for the same reason...the top parts are too huge & baggy round the arms & bust.

What is it with people (ie. complete strangers!) who feel that they can comment on your body shape just because you are pregnant? Like you don't feel self concious enough as it is. If I'd gotten this way through eating too many pies, I bet no one would comment on how hilarious I look.

One woman at work kept on insisting on prodding my tummy every time she saw me! I barely knew her. Glad I'm on maternity leave now!

i've gone up one bra size (happened straight away when only 3 weeks pregnant lol!) but most days i'm back down to my normal size, i just get a bit of bloat sometimes. i've also found with clothes in larger sizes when you only have a belly bump is that the bottom and thigh areas are too big and look ridiculous, so you do need maternity trousers or jeans unless you find leggings/joggers/etc. that fit okay. the only thing to really grow is my feet and ankles, they're massive so i've had to get bigger shoes. i wouldn't wear a maternity dress though because i'm a size 18/20 normally, so i feel too fat for a dress even though i haven't gained any pregnancy weight.

i've borrowed another evans skirt for today, it feels lovely and cool, i've got a hospital appointment so i couldn't wear jeans, hospital's like an oven. the advantage of the skirt is that it doesn't have the stretchy panel, it's elasticated so it's comfortable but with not having that funny looking panel starting at the knicker line it means i can wear some tops that i had before getting pregnant and they don't have to come halfway to my knees to cover up the unattractive stretchy panel - woohoo! that means i can change my clothes 2 or 3 times a day when i feel hot lol!

This isn't about clothes but a tip for keeping cool when you're preggy :)

Sit with your feet in a washing up bowl full of cool water, not cold water just cool (take the dishes out first ;))

I bought one of those ice crushers (with a turny handle.....about £3 I think) and would fill a glass with crushed ice, which I had squeezed a wedge of lemon over, and ate it with a spoon. It REALLY cools you down and is good if you feel sick too.

In bed, wrap a wet towel around your feet and point the fan at them.

My first baby was in July so I really feel for all you pregnant people, it's hot when your NOT pregnant but when you are.......yikes! In my last pregnancy all I wanted to eat was ice and I slept with the windows open and the fan on me all night........that baby was born in January :D
Just run, run and keep on running!

Oh, I forgot about my feet, they have gone up about 1 size...even though they're not swollen they just seem to have got wider. So I did have to get some new comfy Springers sandals the other day in the Clarks sale as all I could fit comfortably were my old trainers & it's way too hot for those now.

They were only £10 off so not a great bargain, but they are sooooo comfy & supportive it was worth it, as my feet do get achy quite quickly now And they have an adjustable buckle so I can let'em in and out if my feet swell, or if they get thinner post-preg.

I did by a couple of pairs of Clarks on Ebay, but neither fitted so I got disillusuioned with waiting for nice shoes to go up for auction & then being disappointed when I got them...managed to sell them on for more than I paid for them though, so OK in the end!

Jellyhead, I don't much like myself in skirts/dresses either as I don't like my legs...but I have succumbed in this hot weather as well. I have my £2.99 second-hand NEXT maternity skirt on today..thank goodness I got that a few weeks ago.

Wow, you guys are all stars to manage in this heat I'm roasting and I'm not even pregnant so I have no idea how hot you must all feel.

The Asda near me is a Wallmart Asda (one of the big ones) so I'm not sure if they do it everywhere, but, they have a really nice range of maternity wear in there, summer dresses, skirts, trousers 1 or 2 wedding/ christning type outfits even, I know this because last week I very nearly tried on a lovely skirt in there, wasn't until I figured out why it had buttons to expand the waist line I realised it was maternity wear :D

the skirts i wear are ankle length so they hide my legs lol! i've also found a patchwork ethnic style skirt with bells on today that i put away because it was too loose, it fits great now. my husband mentioned yesterday how odd it is that so many of my pre-pregnancy tops still fit me at more than 36 weeks pregnant, i must think i'm much fatter than i actually am. it's true that larger women than me pick size 16 clothes from the racks in asda while i look for a 20.

i was a size 10-12 then i got PCOS and suddenly over the 6 months before my wedding i gained nearly 4 stone despite going to the gym and went up to a size 20. this was when my first child was 5 so it was nothing to do with my previous pregnancy, i was never big with that anyway. diet and exercise help me feel more energetic since getting big but nothing loses any of the weight. i know what people mean about strangers touching your belly and asking when you're due - they did that to me when i first put on weight and i wasn't actually pregnant, that was horrible lol!!

    Hi jelly

Yes, I like long skirts too, not because I'm pregnant though! That's why I recommended the Nightingales site - https://www.nightingales.ltd.uk

Although, this weather, I wear a full-length cotton slip underneath - at least that avoids the elastic around the waist and getting sweaty.

You poor pregnant ladies. I forgot how sweaty it was now.

I had my baby in April on a scorcher of a day but I had her at 7am so didn't feel the effects of heat. Now I am still getting over pregnancy hormones so just can't stop sweating and hair still falling out.

1st baby born in july 2003 and what a hot summer that was.

Ladies you all take it easy and do as little as possible (if you can).

    Good luck with clothes hunt.

My feet seem to get much hotter than the rest of me, though they used to do that before I was preg as well. At the moment I'm keeping a little plastic plant mister by the bed at night with cool, room temperature water (not cold as that makes you feel hotter afrterwards) and if I feel them burning up I just stick them out of the side of the bed & 'mist' them with the water spray. It really cools them down & it's cheaper than buying those cans of Magicool. Good for any other hot body parts as well.

But putting them in a bowl of cool water does work better.
