What does the policy say?

Does it, eg, say policy will be invalidated if it isn't parked on the drive between 10pm & 6am? Or that there will be a higher excess if it isn't on the drive?

Someone I know has an expensive Mercedes suv and told his insurance co it was always parked in the garage which is in fact way too small for the car. Not sure how he would stand if it’s stolen off the driveway overnight?

Might be worth mentioning to your friend that it can sometimes be more expensive to insure a car that is parked in garage overnight compared to one parked on the drive.
May be postcode dependent.

Postcode can make a massive difference to car insurance.  I moved from South London to the East Midlands and it went down by quite a lot.  When I moved to the middle of Dartmoor it dropped again substantially and I was paying what seemed like peanuts.
