The payment is probably just delayed and will appear at some point.

The transaction could show up months later, so don’t worry about it.

Had this happen to me a few times when credit cards were done by hand using a card machine.

The assistant filled in the little booklet but didn't put my card through the machine.

Also made withdrawals at a cash machine. Gave me my money, but not taken from my bank account.

Also had cash machine dispensing £20s instead of £10s
  • My husband had a similar event.  He went to buy groceries and a bottle of whisky.  Due to a mishap the whisky wasn't charged so he went back the next day to pay.  My reaction was it would cause a lot of hassle and their prices cover stealing. He was threatened with prosecution for shop-lifting and if he identified the assistant he/she would have been dismissed.  Honesty was not the best policy!

I accidentally failed to pay for a pack of toilet rolls many moons ago as they were hanging on the hook on my trolley and I didn't realise until I checked my receipt when I got home. I was mortified because I have never intentionally stolen anything in my life but i decided it was probably better that I donated the equivalent amount of money to charity rather than drive all the way back to the supermarket (14 mile round trip) and then try to get them to figure out how I pay for it after the event.

You did what you needed to do so in turn it is no longer your fault. I wouldn't worry about it, like others are saying if they want to they can easily charge you.
  • This happened to me in Marks and Spencers. For some reason the turkey I had bought did not register on the bill. I went back to the store 4 days later . The manager said keep it has a gift. I gave the money to a friend who lives on a very low income.I gave in anonymously at first but the friend sussed out it was me who had left the envelope on her seat at our local JW Kingdom  Hall. She was very grateful.

You have had the goods, and should pay for them.
There are approx 8 billion people on the planet.  Do you really think that they are all that honest?

I know they are not.  I worked in a big London Post Office for years and the amount of theft was high.

Supermarkets are such a rip-off, for once you got a true bargain. I wouldn’t give it back but I would put a few toys in their collection for needy/hospitalised kids at Christmas. Beyond that, 🤬🤬🤬🤬 them, they rob all of us on a regular basis!
Exactly what is happening .....some people have more expendable income than common sense

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c51nn8rz057o#:~:text=The boss of Tesco has,in the year to February.

https://internetretailing.net/sainsburys-boss-pay/#:~:text=Sainsbury's bosses have defended higher, year salary and other benefits.

On top of the inflated cost to shop  .....supermarket car parks are infested with unregulated private parking scammers wanting £100 plus 70 illegal costs .... a MP stated in parliament that the private parking companys were as useful as a multi-story car park in the Gobi desert .
We live in a small market town.  There are 2 supermarkets, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.  It’s free to park in both of them.  In the next small town there all the usual supermarkets including Aldi and Lidl.  They are all free to park.  Sometimes I feel like I live on a different planet :D
