mexicano54  why on earth would you even consider doing business with them?  Just asking for trouble if anything goes awry.  There are plenty of other reputable companies to deal with and you might find a local company who can offer you a better deal.

I’ve been thinking of doing my kitchen floor for ages and I was just driving past their store and popped in to see what they had and get a quote. There was a Tapi next door but I never heard of them. Now I know that the owners of Tapi used to be the owners of carpetright. I haven’t actually looked in earnest about the kitchen floor 😁 I just wanted to get it done so I gave them £50 on Thursday and booked an appointment for the surveyor for today. I’ve obviously heard of them but I didn’t really know anything about Carpetright’s reputation until Friday’s administration notice in the papers!
And so I came here and found this forum.
As I’ve already mentioned I’ll wait for their quote and then go find another company 👍
By the way there are several carpet Lino shops around where I live but they are just little “corner” shops and they probably only cater to landlords.

There have been enough problems with their "dual contract" way of working (they sell the carpet and refer you to a fitter who you pay separately) to put me off buying from them.  I'm sure the great majority of installations go perfectly well, but if there is a problem, you the customer risk being stuck in the middle of two parties blaming each other.

I just accepted the dual contract as a lot of companies sub contract out fittings and repairs.

A sub-contract would be fine. That's the problem with doing it the othe way.

I used one of the 'corner shops' a previous poster referred to. Very helpful owner, plenty of choice. When it came to fitting he gave me the option of paying the fitter or paying him. I chose to pay the carpet shop owner as I told him that if anything goes wrong my contract was with the shop and not a third party. He was fine with it.

Wouldn't go near those national chains like Tapi or Carpetright.

We have a lot of independent co's like that round here. All geared to the public.

Please give your trade to a local supplier.

Although giving £50 for booking a appointment is going to be fun getting back..

You will have to wait & see what happens. You do have chargeback rights on the Aug fitting if they do fold, but only after the date promised.

I'll try getting the £50 back but I will probably just have to put it down to experience!
Some of my "corner" shops really look tatty and I wouldn't go near them. They have all sorts of gear stuffed in there, like mattresses, beds, headboards, carpets and lino all thrown on top of each other.
Of course I would prefer giving my business to someone local but there are limits to loyalty.
