The pub off strip that shows British games is the Crown & Anchor.

yep the Crown and Anchor would be a good bet for the Game . it's web site lists upcoming matches they are screening

    http://www.crownandanchorlv.com/

otherwise you could try ESPN zone at NYNY like stew says .

i have never had to look into buffets from a veggie point of view  , but some of the bigger better ones might be best bet ( mirage, bellagio ect) .Palms buffet would be best avoided at all costs , for your needs

i like Bills Gambling Hall as a place , the diner inside is great for graveyard eating. offers for it never come along because it only has about 200 rooms . check out some exsiting offers for other properties for your dates for a guide to expected prices.

never heard of looktours , but that does not mean much . just check where they flying from. it might not be McCarren . otherwise unless you land in the canyon , they are all helicopters seeing the same sights after all . the more you can see in one flight the better . try to get , the Hoover damm , Lake mead and strip in at least.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

I spy Kendal Mint Cakes! Thanks for posting the picture - had forgotten how bad of a photo of Mr Ferf it is but it's good of the rest of us, so he'll survive. :)

Bill's Gamblin Hall and Saloon (formerly Barbary Coast) seems to get very good feedback on TripAdvisor and I can get a room there for the period for about £300. I realise it hasn't got a pool but that doesn't bother me, and given it's on the small side it shouldn't take ages to get in and out. I'm not looking to do much gambling so the quality of its casino isn't a huge issue either.

I haven't stayed there myself, but based on the trip reports I've read and photos of the rooms I've seen, it seems like a decent place to stay and as you suggested, because it is small it's very quick from room to the strip from what I understand.

£300 seems a reasonable rate for that period too.

as a hotel guest you can use Flamingo's pool from what I have read and since Flamingo's pool is always said to be one of the best in Vegas, that would be a bit of a bonus.

You could get Imperial Palace for less through Harrah's Hot Deals. If you just want a room to lay your head. I think it would be about $455 before tax for a deluxe room (refurbished) or $404 before tax for a classic room. it's 2 doors down from Bill's so same general area.

I don't think that the classic rooms at IP are as nice as at Bill's though - some photos of the classic room here:

If you've looked at the info for Bill's on tripadvisor you probably have seen the room photos and they are pretty nice (and have great TVs!)

You cannot get a more centrally placed hotel than the ones on this junction (Ballys, Caesars and Bills). It also literally takes 2 mins to get to your room from the strip.

Does anybody have any experience of staying there, and am I likely to get anything better for a similar price in terms of the room and position of the hotel on the Strip?

I've stayed at both Imperial Palace and Bill's and would definitely prefer Bill's over IP. The rooms are nice with a 42inch flat screen TV. It takes no time at all to get to either the parking garage or the strip. You don't really have to go through the casino to get to your room. The lifts in the IP are notoriously slow, and it can take forever to get to and from the room. If you're only staying for a few days go with Bill's and save yourselves lots of time.

How good are the buffets/restaurants if you are vegetarian? Are there any to steer clear of?

Do you eat seafood as part of your veggie diet? If so there will be plenty to choose from at most of the better buffets. If you don't do fish etc. then all I can think of is pizza and salads, but then I'm not a veggie. There are some buffets that have a section where you can choose a selection of veggies and have them stir fried with your choice of sauce. Harrah's, Gold Coast, Rio and Orleans definitely have that facility.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Ferfie

I have 3 nights I haven't booked when we go in May/June and there is a good deal on at the Excalibur. I am single mum and have two kids ages 10 and 7. Would you recommend it for them. It looks great! We are booked into the Palazzo for the next 4 nights.

    Regards
There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.

Hi - I would think that for kids it would be ideal. We don't have children and so have never really approached it that way but in terms of what we know is offered it seems to be one of the more kid friendly hotels on the strip.

It IS a long, long way from the Palazzo though! We found the rooms to be perfectly adequate - clean, large enough, and I understand that they have renovated some since the last time we stayed there a few years ago, but it's still quite a lot different than the Palazzo...it's not remotely posh. At least when we stayed there their rooms did not have baths - only showers. Not sure if that has changed or if it would be an issue for your kids. Though if you are staying at Excalibur and then moving to Palazzo it will probably be fine - I would not suggest doing it the other way around. :)

Thirdly, are the helicopter packages to the Grand Canyon broadly similar in temrs of quality and experience? At the moment I'm probably going to go with Looktours.

I can't really help on any of the others but we did the helicopter tour through Papillion tours on our honeymoon last year and it was amazing, we were picked up from the Luxor a about 6am driven to an airport, flown to the edge of the canyon - transferred to a helicopter with another couple and flew slowly down to the bottom where we has a half hour riverboat cruise with a native American guide (although the cruise was meant to be 10 mins) then back to the helicopter and up to a view point for lunch then back to Vegas again, I think we got back around 3. Quite possibly the most breathtaking day of my life! But I'm sorry I don't even know how much it cost, hy OH booked it as a wedding gift for me :D
