Afternoon all, please accept my apologies if this is a repeat of someone elses question but I'm sure we all know the search facility isn't the best feature on this site and I really can't sift through every page on the Vegas threads.

We're looking at Vegas as an option for New Year and current direct prices with BMI and Virgin are hovering around the £500. I'm just wondering if anyone else has travelled over New Year in previous years and can advise whether this is likely to be the best price we can expect.

    Thanks in Advance

If you are a Vegas fan this radio station is a good place to pick up local vegas news and using the "listen now" feature you can listen to the wacky talk shows like Rush Limbaugh.

Don't think they will be knocking it down any time soon. They ARE de-theming it a bit, and upgrading a lot of the areas.

Personally, I don't like the idea of a pyramid without the Egyptian theme, but that is apparently what they are doing.

i very much doubt it . and not while the Excalibur is still standing. the place has something in the region of 4000 rooms that are usually affordable ,so i would suspect the place turns over a very healthy profit.

pebblesmax is right there is a plan to de theme it, much like Treasure Island was .

that not bad price at all i would say , given it will be the time of year everyone will be off work.
please be aware that new years eve is the most expensive night of the year to stay in Vegas . i would start hunting for a room deals from sept .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

It IS a long, long way from the Palazzo though! We found the rooms to be perfectly adequate - clean, large enough, and I understand that they have renovated some since the last time we stayed there a few years ago, but it's still quite a lot different than the Palazzo...it's not remotely posh. At least when we stayed there their rooms did not have baths - only showers. Not sure if that has changed or if it would be an issue for your kids. Though if you are staying at Excalibur and then moving to Palazzo it will probably be fine - I would not suggest doing it the other way around. :)
just don't touch the buffet - we did (without researching) and found it to be *yak* compared to all the others we tried... after we got back, we realised everyone else said the same :D

I was willing to take a punt at Excalibur (just 2 of us, not a family) and we were going to stay there May / June as a 'Widescreen View Room (Refurbished)' was a great price :) ended up getting NYNY for the same(ish) price (and that's what the bird was after originally anyways) but all the widescreen rooms are recently refurbished with flat TV's. I'd take the risk if the price is good :)

.... we liked the 'Inferno' bar there as well :)

OMG, You are not going to believe what I've just done - I'm still shaking as it's my first time!!! I've only bid through Priceline and had my bid accepted for the Palazzo for 4 nights of our 7 night stay. The winning bid price was £80 per night and this is for a Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday. I can't believe it. (My initial 3 night bid was rejected, so I changed the number of nights so I could rebid, hence my question below.)

So I now need to cancel my booking at the Mirage - I had just got price confirmation through from them of quite a drop in price as well.

I've currently got our first 4 nights booked at The Signature. Is it usually okay to cancel 1 night from the booking and still keep the original rates for the other nights? (I'm so hoping I've not mucked anything up.)

PS Will this make me the first poster to stay at the Palazzo as we will be there from 28 March?

Bill's Gamblin Hall and Saloon (formerly Barbary Coast)
I've stayed at both Imperial Palace and Bill's and would definitely prefer Bill's over IP. The rooms are nice with a 42inch flat screen TV. It takes no time at all to get to either the parking garage or the strip. You don't really have to go through the casino to get to your room. The lifts in the IP are notoriously slow, and it can take forever to get to and from the room. If you're only staying for a few days go with Bill's and save yourselves lots of time.

How good are the buffets/restaurants if you are vegetarian? Are there any to steer clear of?

Do you eat seafood as part of your veggie diet? If so there will be plenty to choose from at most of the better buffets. If you don't do fish etc. then all I can think of is pizza and salads, but then I'm not a veggie. There are some buffets that have a section where you can choose a selection of veggies and have them stir fried with your choice of sauce. Harrah's, Gold Coast, Rio and Orleans definitely have that facility.

That's really helpful to know, and thanks for the other responses. I now feel reassured in booking Bill's and know where to go to watch the Champion's League Final whilst away.

I suspect I'm going to need to look a little closer at the range of Grand Canyon tours and think about where I'm going to eat (I don't eat seafood) but now I know where to target my research!

We had a miles+money fare on Virgin over NYE a couple of years ago - £325 each but it doesn't look like any such fares are available this time around. £500 doesn't seem like a bad price as trets said.

As for hotels, if you haven't already done so I would price hotels before booking your flights - you may find better rates later in the year, but as trets said that's the most expensive time of the year in Vegas...so at least worth checking to be sure you would be happy with the rates you can currently get and then any special offers later in the year will just be a bonus.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Did you (or could you) post the winning bid and dates on Betterbidding?

It will help others to win this new 5* hotel
