I had also looked at the possibilty of just hiring a car for the day for our trip to Vegas. We are staying in Hollywood and wondered how easy it would be to get to our hotel from LAX, and to other attractions such as Universal Studios. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has stayed in LA and whether you think a car is a necessity for two days!
Thanks
Hi,
It depends on where you are staying in Hollywood, there is a train/subway that runs from Hollywood to Universal, its only two stops I think. We looked at this earlier in the year and were going to be staying near the big shopping centre in Hollywood (name has disappeared from my head at the moment!!). You're a long way away from the other theme parks in Hollywood though.
We flew from Vegas to LAX, it was about an hour and cost $80.00, just didn't fancy the drive on a holiday weekend to be honest.
Hope that helps,

Thanks very much - now I remember your TR (with photos) - why I didn't remember that and go there directly is anyone's guess. My memory is not what it once was!
That's really great guidance for us - I think my hope is that we're back off toward Vegas in the same sort of time you guys were (or at least by 10am or so, noon is sort of my worst case scenario) - that would be ideal I think...hoping to have time do the Seligman to Kingman drive on Route 66 ( 1 1/2 hours according to MapQuest when I-40 would take an hour - so not a huge increase in time) and then make it to Hoover Dam in plenty of time to do the tour if the in-laws want, and at least take photos if not.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I'm off to Vegas for the first time in 3 weeks and was hoping for some advice on 2 points....
1. Am looking to hire a car for 1 or 2 days to drive to Hoover Dam/Lake Mead and possibly Red Rock Canyon. I've read on this thread that parking at Bills (where i'll be staying) is a nightmare so I was wondering if I booked it for 2 day whether I can park at a nearby hotel instead? If so, is there a charge?
2. I would like to see a magic/illusion show whilst in Vegas and was wondering whether anyone can recommend a good one? I have heard that Lance Burton's show is good but am open to other ideas? I am in vegas for 10 nights so am very flexible on which day I could go - does his show turn up at the half price ticket booth?
Many thanks for any advice offered.

My impression is that Lance Burton isn't usually available at the 1/2 price booths (have been investigating for our trip in October). You can get $10/off per ticket through here:

I can certainly reccomend Lance Burton, was very impressed with him, I don't know how he did any of those tricks, how can a man standing on the stage one second be behind you the next, my only solution is that the man has a twin!!!
I also saw David Copperfield but wasn't very impressed with him to be honest, he seemed very bored with what he was doing.

Thanks to everyone on this thread!
Just booked the hotel, Bally's, and flights to spend four days in Vegas. Can't wait for the experience!
Want to, in order of preference:
1- WIN some money
2- Heli trip to Grand Canyon
3- See a show/sight-see
4- Eat and drink in between
Guess that will fill up four days?:beer:0 -

AprilHey all,
just 1 more day untill we set of to vegas wooo hooo, and after our summer im looking forward to actually getting some SUN the most!
But anyway just wanted to ask as the begining information part of this thread (first page, introduction) it states you can get a limo from the aiport for $50 for a hour, and as im heading out with 2 girls who havent been before i thought this would be a great way to see the strip straight off and get to the hotel, is it easy to pick up these limo's ? and are they still $50? and would they fit luggage for 3 in one?
also could anyone advise on a good buffet to go to for our first night dinner??

i think i remeber reading good things about presidential limos.
most buffets are pretty good , some are very good indeed , a small amount are poor.
The Mirage buffet has always been quick to get seated and of high quality and huge choice .
The Bellagio buffet is expensive and always seems to have a queue , but the food is very very good indeed (espically the desserts)
The best buffet for a lot of people is the Spice market buffet @ Planet Hollywood. which is nearly at Bellagio standard of quality but not the queues or the expense.
Paris buffet also gets good marks
MGM , Mandalay buffet , Ceasars , are fine but don't have the quality and/or chocie of the above.
Harrahs buffets is okay but a tad expensive compared to others.
The wynn buffet is rated high by some , but i found it expensive and a very long queue .
The Golden nugget buffet is okay , but nothing special .
avoid the Trashy castle buffet , Sahara buffet and Circus circus buffet, i would also be wary of the Tropicanna buffet
there are no buffets at the Venetian , newyork newyork, or Ballys2. I would like to see a magic/illusion show whilst in Vegas and was wondering whether anyone can recommend a good one? i have never seen Lance Burton @ the half price booths . Dirk Arthur @ Tropicanna is good show for not much money (always half price or 2 for 1 tickets available)
David Copperfield is just average IMOBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
