anyone know whats wrong here :? I'm using kayak.co.uk to search for flights from glasgow to vancouver to vegas.

1st leg of the trip is a 7 day stop over in vancouver, kayak finds direct return flights next august the 7th 2009 with flyglobespan at £389 each person which I thought was pretty good. Went to book it and it says "Departure outside season" - what does that mean ?

What do you mean "forced" did the guy hold a gun to your head?
I think you wll find it's the $500 of Vodka that gets you a table, but I coud be wrong, let us know.

He was just forceful, following us and saying he wouldn't be able to live if people didn't tip etc etc.. He just made it incredibly uncomfortable and I felt it would get nasty if I didn't do as he said! My mistake but hey.

Saying that if they do get me in, it's well worth the $10 tip I gave... Going to save $120 in total just from Pure! Then some more from Lax!

Just come back from another poker session, this time at Flamingos. For any poker players, Vegas really is as easy as it's said to be in terms of poker. Fantastic sessions and winnings!

Anyway will let you know if the tickets do work! If they do I'll definitely be going back for more, even if the guy does force tips :p

As far as I know you can only book flights 11 months in advance? Maybe that has something to do with it?

I don't know for sure, but the My Travel flights stop at Glasgow for a very short period during the summer and then only on a certain day or days of the week. So it may be that it's trying to find you flights on My Travel and isn't able to? I don't know if any other airlines ever fly direct Vegas to Glasgow.

Thinking about it, it may also be that you are trying to book more than 330 days in advance...I think that's the maxium window for booking flights.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
  • Hi, long time reader of this thread, so apologies if these questions are answered elsewhere (i tried a search but couldnt find where i thought i'd read the answers).

I'm looking to travel to Vegas during Mid Jan or early March and have been trawling the various airline booking sites for months now. I'm now about ready to book (especially with the prices seemingly dropped at present) and have noticed that if i book the tickets direct through Northwest i can save between £100 and £200 on the usual site's prices (expedia etc).

    So, a couple of queries.

Is there a problem with booking direct with the airline via their US site and paying in dollars or will it cause issues with taxes at all? (i'm sure i've read on here that a lot of people book direct with the airlines)

Is there any cover for if there's a problem with the airline/flight? (i take it being a US company they're not in ABTA, although i guess i am covered by booking via credit card. Its more a question as to whether i have the same rights i would if i'd booked through someone like expedia)

My first choice airline would have been BMI but as they're too expensive would people recommend NWA as a decent alternative? (i've seen a few people on here mention them as being a good carrier. I've already decided against Virgin based on service quality so don't want to make a mistake with NWA).

Finally, am i right in thinking the NWA A330s are new planes and highly recommended? I have the choice of the A330 or B777 flights with our holiday plans.

Can't wait to go. This is a delayed honeymoon due to the recent birth of our first son (we get married in Oct) and apart from a brief 2 hour trip to the strip during a layover (while on the way to San Diego, flying by Virgin) last summer this will be a first time to Vegas.

Hello- Northwest dont actaully operate 777's so the trip is probably a code share with air france or KLM- both operate differnt variations of the 777-200/300.

Northwest operate 32 A330's and the average fleet age is 3 years on that specific model. If you look on www.seatguru.com you can find your model and see the seating layout- all of these have the latest AVOD so you get seatback tv's etc.

KLM operate 17 777's and their average fleet age is 3.1 years- like NWA ou get all the seat back tv's etc.

Air France operate 51 777's and their average fleet age is 5.1 years.

In the terms of age these are all fairly new. As for service from what I have read NWA are ok (everyone has their own opinion and im sure some peeople on here will be able to help you with that). Air France are meant to be better and more consistent in service than KLM but again its down to matter of opinion.

If you go back about 3 pages from here and start reading you will also see an intresting dicussion about some really cheap flights which have been purchased through some Austrailan sites- make sure you read them before you book anywhere else to see if you can bag yourself a bargain.

    Enjoy your honeymoon
  • Thanks for the info Oneil. Having had another look you're right about the 777s.

I've looked at the expedia.au site and priced up a few flights but they're no cheaper (or only a small saving) than booking direct with NWA for the dates and schedules i was looking into. I am keeping an eye on them though and will double check before final booking.

Once someone can confirm my queries about booking through NWA's US site in dollars i think i'll be getting some tickets booked. Very excited. :j
  • I'm liking what I'm hearing about these new NWA planes! I booked with them through Thomas Cook and I have my flight confirmation number - does anyone know if I'll be able to choose my seats now if I ring NWA? Or do I have to wait until online check in?

Regarding online check-in - if I have checked baggage, how soon before my flight will I need to be at the airport?

be careful booking through jetabroad...someone has received an email from them below, it may also apply to the expedia.au flights

Recieved this morning from Jetabroad -

    Dear Jetabroad customer

We are writing to you to update the status of your recent Northwest Airlines booking request.
A series of trans-Atlantic airfares, which Northwest released in the past 24 hours, have been filed through the global reservation systems without the inclusion of a fuel surcharge. Unfortunately, we have now placed a hold on issuing your tickets as we are required to check with Northwest Airlines on how they wish to proceed with these bookings. Your credit card has not been charged and we apologise for the inconvenience. For booking requests using PayPal, these funds will not be transferred to the airline until this issue is resolved.

We are working with the airline to resolve this matter and we would hope to have more information on the status of these bookings within the next 72hours.
