MarchHi, guys,
leaving tomorrow!!! :j Just quick question: where can I get cheap internet access in LV?
Assuming you won't have a laptop, I think one of the cheapest places is in the Hawaiian Marketplace between Planet Hollywood and MGM...I think it's about $12/hour. Plus it's right by the little Chinese massage place that does GREAT foot rubs.
most hotel business centres will have internet access but it will be much more expensive.
most hotels also have internet kiosks but again, usually more expensive (and some can be a pain to use as they keys are not normal keyboard-type keys but much harder to press).
Edited to add - have a great trip!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I've just put in my dates dep.7th sept ret. 18th sept to Vegas on nwa.com From LHR to LAS stopping at Detroit and returning via MSP and Detriot for 2 adults $1400. £350 each including all taxes, not bad0

if the return is via MSP and Detroit, the journey time is going to be quite long...normally around 22 hours0 -

If you are picking up a car and don't mind a bit of driving, BMI are doing direct flights from Heathrow to LA for about £350.0 -

One of the itineraries it brought up for me had the Detroit to London leg leaving Detroit over 23 hours after the Vegas to Detroit leg arrived in Detroit, so total travel time was over 36 hours!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Was looking at going to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead during my trip in October but am unsure whether I should do an organised coach trip or hire a car. I've never driven in America so am a little unsure. Does anyone have any advice on whats the best value option, what the roads are like i.e. any offroad or difficult terrain, is it fairly straightforward to find and how long does it take to drive?
Was planning to hire the car whilst I'm staying at the Stratosphere (am moving centre strip after 4 nights). Is it easy to park there and is there a fee? Also, can hire cars be delivered to the hotel for pickup or do you have to hire from a car hire office?
Sorry for so many questions but any advice is much appreciated.

AugustHi all,
I fly out next Monday:D
Just want to find a Coach tour to GC, did a search and read` all post on GC ish, and could only find the comment below. Can any body recommend a tour ? I had one from trip advisor whuch was the dogs B*****Ks, small group 10 ish a personal service etc for about $100 a head but like all good thing he is fully booked.
I think i now need a tour from "off the shelf" so to speak, hence my post. I would be happy to pay a bit more fro a smaller group size, any recommendations?
Cheers
SteveHas anyone done one of those bus tours from LV to the Grand Canyon? The one I am looking at is the following: http://www.looktours.com/bus1.html
but my OH is worried that this is going to be too long and uncomfortable. And I can't really justify taking a place or helicopter there... especially since I would like to see 2 cirque shows, goes to disney california and universal studios and that will surely be a LOT of $$$.
Any suggestions? Alternatives?
A while ago I read here about staying in a hotel in the CG... but I am very picky in terms of hotels (not a good thing when you're always trying to save money, I know...) and am worried that the lodges I looked at might have hmm... bugs etc. (if I do see a bug or an "etc." in my room I can't sleep for days.... Happened twice, once with a bug in a hotel room and once with an "etc" in a student hall).
Any comments and tips are really appreciated!! I've never had to plan such an expensive and complex trip (never been to the US).
PS: I have just returned from Blackpool, again professional reasons, and it was a dump as a holiday resort, run-down, depressing... The beach is gorgeous though, but that is about it (please don't get offended if you're from blackpool... I am sure that life outside the resort is really agreable. The residential areas looked nice and well maintained. I really just mean the promenade). Please tell me LV is nothing like it...£100 to £10k in 2010 using the magic of internet poker (Don't play poker unless you know what you are doing)

Stratosphere has a Budget rental car desk and you could rent from www.budget.co.uk and pick up at the Strat. How the prices would compare to other pick up options at other hotels (try www.netflights.com) I'm not sure. Be sure you are comparing like with like though - netflights prices will be inclusive of all insurance, not sure if Budget's figures will and the extra insurance waivers will usually double the price from the standard quote. Edited to add that netflights has an option to pick up at Sahara which is pretty much across the street from Stratosphere so may be worth looking at.
It's free and easy to park at all Vegas hotels...for an even easier option you can drop the car off at valet and they will park it for you - a small tip when you pick it up is standard.
Personally, I would rent a car and drive but I hate coach tours and I grew up in the US. It is a very straightforward drive - worst roads will be dual carriage way. I think the drive took us about an hour and 15 mins to Hoover Dam, but we hit some traffic - my impression is that it normally takes 45 mins or so.
I'm not sure what part of the UK you are from but personally, I find driving here much MUCH more stressful and confusing than driving pretty much anywhere in the US. The roads are generally much wider and straighter, at least.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Steve,
Does it have to be a coach tour?? Its an awfully long way for a day trip.
We flew out on a light plane and then watched the imax film (not bad), buffet lunch and then a comprehensive tour of the canyon by coach. It was run by Scenic airlines and was worth every penny of about 150.00 pounds.
This is the link of the tour if it is of any help.
